BBC Sport has acquired the rights to show the Super Bowl live for the next two years in an exclusive free-to-air deal with the NFL.
The deal also includes highlights of the NFL London game on October 28 between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium, plus any other NFL London games that may be scheduled for next year.
Philip Bernie, head of BBC TV Sport editorial, said: "The Super Bowl is one of the world's great sporting events and we are delighted that, after many years of covering it on BBC Radio 5 Live, we are now also going to be showing it on BBC Television. The Super Bowl always attracts great interest and we are really looking forward to providing a new showcase for this huge occasion."
The NFL already has deals with Five to show regular season games, and Sky Sports, which shows daily NFL content and 130 live games.
The Super Bowl XLII will come live from Arizona on Sunday February 3 2008, with the event being held in Tampa, Florida the following year. The BBC commentary teams and scheduling for the Super Bowl XLII event will be announced in due course.
Well, this came completely out of nowhere.
But the BBC can promote something like this well (i.e. Heroes) and I think they'll get a really solid rating from this.

Hell if the UEFA Champions League can catch fire here, I don't see why it can't there

They should call our version of football as soccer in Europe. Then we're even.

WTF? Didn't expect this.
I'll still be watching on Sky Sports, though. Their HD image and sound quality last year was excellent.

Well they'd make lots money having their stuff showed on Youtube as well. Like yousaid in other nation there is no way to watch NFL on TV. So you let emwatch it on youtube and familiar with the product.
Or here's my plan. NFL should create its own NFLtube site allow people post all football related clips there they want to.

Brits don't really take too kindly with "rugby for vaginas". Trust me it different i think this come up in every thread. Look at that guy Everett from the Bills his life is changed cause of impacts from NFL. That SP teams stuff is like suicide missions sometimes.

I hate it when people say Football is the same thing as Rugby.
The only thing that's similar is the ball and the shape of the posts. That's it. Otherwise, it's a completely different game. Being a Football fan who lives in the UK, I get this crap all the time and it's really annoying.
Plus, how anyone can say that football is "too soft" is also misinformed. It's been said before -every play could be your last.

Brits don't really take too kindly with "rugby for vaginas". Which obviously explains why it sold out Wembley Stadium in about a day.

Wow.......so now I know how most Americans felt when David Beckham signed for LA Galaxy
* Rimshot *
On the otherhand though, I've never actually watched an NFL game, seens snippets of it and played Madden for the Mega Drive so unlike others, I will give it a viewing likely depending on when they show it
But yeah this is a bit of a suprise
