San Diego resident Melody Burnham sued TV's Judge Greg Mathis and his show's production companies, claiming she didn't know Mathis was not a real judge in a real court. She also says Mathis called her a "hillbilly" on the show.
A spokesperson for Telepictures Productions, the company that produces "Judge Mathis," tells TMZ: "We believe this case has absolutely no merit. Greg Mathis is a respected lawyer and former judge. The show, currently in its ninth season, follows strict procedures for case selection, releases and binding awards. All participants sign releases before appearing on the program and any allegations that this was not a real case are unfounded and fabricated. Judge Mathis' track record for advocacy and fairness to all speaks for itself."
I don't watch any of these judge shows, but assumed he was one. Anyone else already know this?
I do realize some of these are actually retired, but anyone else feel we're overrun with these shows now?

That's hilarious. Person doesn't get what they want in the case, they sue the company, claiming the guy isn't a "real judge".
No crap, lady, what was your first clue? The fact that you're on TV?!
God, I love this country. And by "love", I mean "want to punch it in it's collective faces".

Its not like you lose money when you go on these shows. Unless Judge Mathis has a different system isn't it you split a pot of 3000 dollars unless you win the case in which you get what you asked for from the defendant's share. Unless I'm wrong which there is a possibility of me being wrong.

Unless Judge Mathis has a different system isn't it you split a pot of 3000 dollars unless you win the case in which you get what you asked for from the defendant's share. Unless I'm wrong which there is a possibility of me being wrong. I believe the way it works is there's a pot of cash. Say, maybe $10K. If you lose, the amount you lose comes out of your end of the pot. So, if you're splitting 10, 5 is your share, you lose the case and owe the defendant 2000, you get 3 from the show. You gotta read them credits quickly, but I believe that's how it works. |

He isn't fake, just retired.
Plus, when you appear on the show, you sign an agreement to follow whatever judgement the judge chooses.
And yeah, there is a pot of 5 - 10 grand that goes to whomever shows up in TV Court.
The Game explained it correctly.

They are real, small claims court judges, so they have seen it all in their careers. Harvey Levin is good about this stuff. Watch People's Court and he'll break it down for you a lot better than a sleepy Meat can. |

Judge Judy has called people worse on her show. Christ Judge Lopez when she was a sitting Judge actually alluded that a boy who was molested by a Pedo was asking for it. |
