It started out with high ratings but ended with REAL low ones and seems to be real underrated in real life and on here. I love this show. It was SO fresh and new.
It captured being in the middle of 4 brothers with not much money, just perfect. Sure the characters traits are a little exaggerated ( as with just about EVEY sitcom ever) as the show goes on. It NEVER got bad.
There were always like 3 interesting different ORIGINAL stories going on that connected in the end. usually.
Most sitcoms got alot of good episodes and a few bad ones. Example would be Seinfeld which alot dont get. I would say its the best ever but it made me laugh sometimes.
Then theres sitcoms with just alot of bad mediocre ones and MAYBE a couple good episodes (Home Improvement for example) and follow the same boring sitcom formula thats been done way too much in others before before.
MITM dont do that. Just usually original realistic stuff. Also they dont use that crap 3 camera set up that makes it look fake OR that REAL fake annoying laugh track. They use one camera and follow around the stories and it looks way more like a movie. I love it cause they usually have 3 different interesting plot lines (A, B, and C), that usually ties together at the end.
Oh and I love the opening theme/video.
Anyway, just thought it was underrated. Cant believe its only 8.1 on IMDB cause IMO its WAY better then Seinfeld and without question better then Married With Children.
Thoughts?

Love malcolm in the middle, still watch it as its constantly repeated on sky. Dewey growing was scary tho as it proper reminded me of my own mortality

If you like it, good for you. I HATED that show with a burning passion.
The opening theme was great, but that shows the awesomeness of They Might Be Giants.
Considering MITM better than Seinfeld (which took me a while to appreciate, admittedly) is foolish. But saying it's better than Married with Children is BLASPHEMY!!!
Married with Children has no equal.

Never watched it, saw a promo for an episode where the father was trying to get the mother to put on a bunch of weight, he was almost obsessed with it-really freaky shit there, on his obsession alone

MWC was the same joke for 12 years...

Malcom in the Middle - Malcom is too smart, Dewey is stupid, The moms' a bitch, the dad is stupid, and Reese is.. you guessed it, stupid.

I thought Malcolm in the Middle was awesome as well and I agree with your opinion that it's better than Seinfeld and MWC. I thought they did an excellent job of evolving the series as the child actors aged and keeping it fresh. Also, stuff like Francis leaving military school, etc. was awesome along with all the characters' interactions and stuff. But yeah... 8.1 is definitely low in my opinion on the show.

I watched Malcolm until the mother became a parody of herself. Then it just wasn't that fun to watch anymore.
Well, that and the Francis storyline, once he left the military academy, just wasn't as good.

I think MITM started off good, and then like many sitcoms, ran out of steam. I enjoyed the show. It took a very "Verfremdungseffekt" approach to sitcoms. What the hell does that mean slik? It means this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alienation_effect

MITM has a murderer in it's opening credits, so I refuse to watch!
*just kidding, the fact that it had Bret vs. Benoit in the titles made it cool to me, before June that is*

The creater (who's actually Dewey) of Malcolm in the Middle is from Surrey, BC, Canada. The show started out as an exaggeration of his life (obviously, with an American twist). Some where along the way, it got confussed with the real life version of the simpsons. It was still a really funny show though. I enjoy watching those re-runs more than Seinfeld. To be honest, everytime I watch Seinfeld now, I never laugh. It's one of those shows that was good for its time, but that was it.

I can't stand that show. One of the worst feelings in the world is when you've just seen an awesome Simpsons episode, and then Malcom starts up. You can't change the channel fast enough.

I really enjoy that show. But I enjoy Seinfeld too. I think MITM was hit-and-miss, though. That being said, to me about 80% of it was a hit. The 20% is the old "Malcolm-you-can't-do-everything-even-though-you're-smart" thing they'd throw in a lot.

One of the most creative and fun shows easily. I'm a super fan of it, and it never really got the attention it deserved. It would have done better if it was on any station other than FOX, because FOX rarely advertised after the first season, and switched the times so many times no one could keep track.
I'm still sad MITM is over, because I kinda grew up with it. I think one of these days everyone will finally catch on to how great it was, but unfortunately it will be much to late. It was one of the very few shows I could relate to also, which is extremely rare these days. Besides the Wonder Years, I don't think I've felt as much connection to anything else.
I'm glad to see there's some MITM fans here.
BTW, from what I've read, in a few countries MITM does better syndication wise than Seinfeld.
I hope MITM finally releases the rest of it's seasons on dvd as many of us have been waiting for them forever.
