Personally, I loved Shemp. And Curly. But there was something about Shemp, man. I just dug him.

Not even a question, in my mind. I was always saddened when watching the Stooges and I got a Shemp episode. And even moreso when it was Curly Joe.

Curly. mothing against Shemp, but Curly was the better representation of the Stooges IMO. Shemp held his own though

I remember getting a box set of 4 Stooges VHS tapes when I was a child. The only way I could have been more excited was if I had gotten 4 wrestling videos. I popped the first video in, AND IT'S SHEMP!!!!! Imagine the diasappointment in my tiny heart that I didn't see Curly. So I try the bext tape, MORE SHEMP!!!!!!! Tapes 3 and 4 yielded the exact same result. I watched it, and enjoyed all 4 tapes, but dammit, I was robbed of Curly.
So, not in any kind of pointless rambling way, Curly gets my vote.

Curly gets the nod but only slightly over Shemp. Curly had better one liners and everytime you see him you just smile. Shemp was great with the physical stuff as well. I love em both!

Yeah, Curly is the superior Stooge, but Shemp is no slouch.

Curly. He was the perfect foil. And his face took a lot of punishment. That's good to know. He rocked.

On this list? Curly for me easily.
My overall personal favorite tho is Larry Fine.

Gotta go with Shemp on this. He's always been a favorite of mine. He and Moe have a better chemistry together, I think the closeness in their ages accounts for that.

Did ANYONE like Curly Joe? I'm not much into the Stooges, but I sure as hell didn't.

I picked option 3, because I have no preference towards the two. Younger brother Jerome "Curl(e)y" Howard was thrusted into the act in 1930 when older brother Samuel "Shemp"(who was the ORIGINAL third stooge, despite what anyone tells you) couldn't take any more of original ringmaster Ted Healey's abuse off stage (Healey was a heavy drinker, and has been to rumored to be a beast at the bars). When the three stooges left under Healey's wing, Moe made himself the leader of the trio with Larry and Curley as his fools in crime. Curley was right away a special part of the act because his physical comedy and timing were impeccible, and his taking of punishment was equally unmatched. In 1945, Curly suffered what would be the first of several small strokes. During the time period in which shorts were released in late 1945 thorugh early 1947, you can tell Curley's timing was off and he was considerably slower in his mannerisms. That stroke not only mark the beginning of the end of his life, but the year later during the filming of "Half-Wit's Holiday", Curly suffered the "big one" and was therefore retired as a stooge (save for an appearance in Hold that Lion, in which he appeared as a passenger who had a clothespin removed from his nose). Jerome would pass away in 1952. Shemp returned shortly after Curly's stroke, and though he didn't take physical abuse as well as Curly (he cut his head during filming for a door bump, wondering if blood was ketchup), he was just as quick-witted as his younger sibling. He lasted until 1955 when he died of a heart attack while coming home from a boxing fight. He would be in four additional shorts, mostly of recycled footage (par for the course in the mid 50s) with new insert shots done by a guy named Joe DePalma. Sorry for the unintentional "history lesson" so to speak, but my point is clear: I have no preference.

On this list? Curly for me easily. My overall personal favorite tho is Larry Fine. I agree on this 100%. Curly had his moments, but Larry was always the best...especially from the first episode. and... I agree as well. He was a disappointment.

I grew up watching those public domain shorts on VHS. 3 of the 4 featured Shemp. While I originally preferred Curly I later learn to appreciate Shemp even more. 'Brideless Groom' is probably my all-time favorite Stooge short. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytSZmLg7czQ

Curly, this debate has gone on for decades. Shemp was ok, just wayyy better than Joe Besser and Curly Joe. I had never seen Stooge shorts involving Joe Besser until I saw some aired on Spike last year. Damn, he sucked......
And there has been a 3 stooges movie in the works that has been on hold for like 3 years now on IMDB.

Curly number 1 only
Shemp sucked.
Even though he was an original and came back after Curly died, and had more film work outside of the Stooges than anyone.
He still sucked. He never made me laugh. Not once.

As a kid, everyone's favorite is Curly. When you become a teenager, Moe really seems to be everyone fav.
After that, you start to realize that Larry was the man that held that team together, everything he did was timed perfectly.
On that list, I appreciate Shemp more.

I'd go with Curly as well. For some reason, if they did a Three Stooges film, I'd want Triple H to play Shemp. Maybe it's me, but he kinda has his facial features. Then again, I drink a lot.
