I normally hate the comedies that come out that everyone seems to love but this one seemed interesting to me probably because I'm a big music fan so I would get a lot of the jokes. I haven't gone to see it but that's just because I've been so busy. I don't think Ferrell could've pulled off a believable Johnny Cash-like character. It probably would've been over the top and annoying.

Marcus Theaters couldn't work out a distrubiton deal with Sweeny Todd. That is one of the reasons that it's playing in so few theaters. I'm disapponted that Walk Hard bombed because it looks like the kind of film that in my mind would be a hit. But in my mind no one would go see National Treasures 2 so clearly I'm not really in touch with the film going public.

Maybe nobody went to the movies this week. The holidays are usually a busy time of the year. You can either spend $9 for 2 hours of enjoyment or spend $9 on three distant relatives you see once a year. People show how masochistic they are by choosing the latter. Personally, I think if they switched the starting dates of "Walk Hard" and "Alvin & The Chipmunks", it would have benefited both films. Alvin is targeted towards old nostalgics and kids, both of which have time off for the holidays. I remember seeing "Tombstone" on Christmas Day 1993. Was the best gift I got.

Sweeney's not here, either, much to my chagrin. And I'm not surprised this bombed (though I've heard from several sources that it's funny) - they took a Will Ferrell movie and cast his side-kick in the lead instead. The "Steve Carrell" maneuver doesn't always work out. (Even for Steve Carrell, apparently.) Now if only Will Farrell's movies would start bombing...[/quote *Crosses Fingers*

I'm seeing NATIONAL TREASURE 2*, SWEENEY TODD, and CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR this week.
*=More like being dragged to it.

Plus, it has Paul Rudd. And we all know you can never have enough Rudd.

There was bound to be Apatow backlash sooner or later. He can only direct/write/produce so many comedies in a two year span before people just get sick of it. I also feel, and I hate saying it, that it would have done better with a bigger name. Nothing against John C Reilly who I love to watch, but the average person doesn't really know who he is. John C. Reilly is a supporting man through and through. I like the guy, and will go watch a movie with him as the main character, but it just won't sell.

Clearly, this movie was slaughtered by the juggernaut that is National Treasure 2. ;D

Maybe if John C. Reilly had ate his own crap it would've done as well as Alvin That statement alone should tell you what I think it wrong with the moviegoing public at large.
