National Treasure is like Wild Wild West. Stupid, badly plotted but easy to watch on a sunday/saturday evening if you have nothing better to do. I'd give it 3 stars as there are far worse films out there. Although I have to disagree on your point that Nicholas Cage is not an action hero type guy. The main majority of the films he makes are action orientated, involve guns or saving the day. a.) RRA's point is not that Cage isn't an action guy because of the movies he does. His point is that Cage isn't an action guy because he seems out of place in those movies. b.) Having just made RRA's point for him, I must now disagree with it. I have a great time seeing Nicholas Cage movies. When I saw the previews for National Treasure, I thought it looked retarded. When I actually saw the movie, I found myself wrapped up in the whole thing. I dug it. Can't wait to see "Book of Secrets." The only good action movie that Cage has ever been involved in that I liked was Woo's FACE/OFF...and even then, his action scenes are like every other Cage-action fest: A guy trying to be cool, badass, awesome...and he's none of them. It's like the "Tom Machine" moniker I threw at Tom Cruise when he did the egotistical M:I 2. Even then, he worked in FACE/OFF because he was playing as if Travolta was (literally) under his skin. Cage can be a good actor, hell he deserved his Oscar for LEAVING LAS VEGAS, but action star? I think not. But really, he hasn't worked a good picture since ADAPTATION. Besides, notice how Cage in many of his pictures is screwing around with women almost half his age? (check out NEXT especially for that sillyness) I mean seriously, what woman would be attracted to someone like Cage? Then again, maybe some chicks dig guys who name their kids after Superman. But I'll give NATIONAL TREASURE this...it's better than THE DA VINCI CODE, which is funny since NT ripped off the CODE book.

I did see Next. It was also fun. I enjoyed it as a popcorn movie. And yes, Adaptation. was a brilliant little picture.

(1) I think of NEXT as a "So Stupid its Laughable" type of picture that the AgonyBooth website would review. (2) Yes it was brilliant.

I somehow managed to grow up enjoying everything from the critically-beloved and artistically-captivating...to USA Up All Night. 2.) Well, at least we can agree on one thing...wait, two things. In Nolan We Trust.

But I'll give NATIONAL TREASURE this...it's better than THE DA VINCI CODE, which is funny since NT ripped off the CODE book. Replace Adaptation with The Weatherman and you'll be correct. (that's just an opinion...me not serious, though it was good). Cage is best when he isn't trying to be super action guy.

Maybe its good, or maybe its a turd.

I've actually seen none of those movies. Though, Shoot'em Up is the only one I actually want to see. Oh, and I enjoyed the bits and pieces of Big Trouble in Little China that I've seen, for what it's worth.
