I really didn't particularly care for the original 1982 cut of BR. Ford's delivery on the voice-over shows that he didn't care for it. (Years later Ford confirmed that he hated the V.O.) and (SPOLIER!!!!) the out-of-place sunny, happy ending just didn't click with me. I greatly enjoyed the 1992 Director's cut, and through that I learned to appreciate both versions greatly. In 2007 I was lucky enough that one theater in Boston carried the Final Cut for a week, and went and saw it. I got the Four-Disc set for Christmas, but haven't had a chance to watch them yet.
Excellent review, RRA. Let's hope this really is "The Final Cut!"

Scott really is Britain's best living director....until he retires and Christopher Nolan takes over the throne. Haha, this statement reminds me of Andrew Sarris. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Sarris

I've made this argument before, I'll make it again, while it can be argued it is not Sci-Fi, I consider it the greatest piece of Sci-Fi Cinema. Ever.

I received this as a Christmas gift, and I watched it last night when I got home from driving from Connecticut.
I absolutely love this film, and this version is awesomeness defined. I'll probably get around to watching the 2nd disc later this week.

Was The Final Cut released separately in theatres or is this the first time it's been released?
And how many versions of Blade Runner are there? Which one do you recommend?
Sorry, I just want to get the one that's gonna make me say "Son of a bitch, that's good filmmaking!"

Sorry, I just want to get the one that's gonna make me say "Son of a bitch, that's good filmmaking!" Fall 2007 is the first time that "The Final Cut" was released into theatrical distribution, arthouses, and on DVD. As for versions...I think 5, right? 1982 U.S. Theatrical Edit - Voice-Over, Happy-ass ending. 1982 International Theatrical Cut - Same as U.S., but more violence/sex. 1990 "Workprint" - Interesting early edit of film. 1992 "Director's Cut" - No Voice-Over, Ambigious Ending, rushed and never fully embraced by Scott. 2007 "The Final Cut" - Scott's fully-sponsored edit, with narrative tightened, goofs/errors fixed, embarrasing wires digitally erased, etc. As for the version you should watch, I say rent the new THE FINAL CUT. It's the first time I've ever watch BLADE RUNNER and felt complete about it.
