Hi, I'm Kash...and I have something to admit...
I didn't like the cena/michaels match from raw a couple weeks ago. Now before you string me up by my thumbs, I did think that both men put in a good effort in the match. So I found it odd that I basically snoozed through the match. I thought "what the hell's wrong with me?"
Then the reason hit me.
I honestly don't care about either of these men.
We'll go with the whipping boy of this place first in John Cena. I've seen this man step up his game in this match and with Umaga, but I've seen him play the superman role so many times I think Bryan Singer signed him up for the next picture. It just feels like he's held that title for way longer than he should. He's now suffering from what I call "Batistaitis", where he looks all impressive but has the charisma of a chia pet.
And before you tell me that he's one of the most charismatic guys on the roster, take a look at some of his heel stuff from a few years ago, or even his early babyface run, where he would come up with some funny raps against his opponents. Now it's the standard hop out of the entrance like a retarded monkey, do his lil salute, and does his watered down schtick before he calls out someone. Woo.
As for the other side of the coin, Shawn Michaels has proven to me that no matter how good he helps make someone look, he can take it all away with a condescending comment (Hey shawn, before you bash hogan on his selfishness, go take a giant look into the mirror) or overselling to the point of ridiculousness. I remember the match he and chris beniot had a few years ago that everyone just wet themselves over. All I saw was a guy doing overexaggerated flips and flops before magically popping back refreshed. And he did this the WHOLE MATCH. I guess he has to get it all in before Triple H comes back and he goes back to the job guy in DX.
This is all just my opinion...agree or disagree, I don't care. I just feel better for getting it off my chest.

By the way, the ONE guy who has made me care about him in any way shape or form lately is Edge. That's a guy who has stepped it up 1000%.

It's okay, we all have "controversial" opinions that everyone shits all over you for. Hell Kent Jones has gotten a reputation for it.

Well Kash if it's any consolation I didn't like it that much until I watched it the second time without commercials. If it's not your cup of tea you're not wrong for thinking so. As I said that night, I'm probably one of the few people who was bored to tears by Hart and Michaels going to a one hour draw; it's not that I don't like both men it's just that it became so evident neither was going to pin the other in regulation that all the false finishes truly felt false and the end couldn't come fast enough.

Then the reason hit me. I honestly don't care about either of these men. I didn't see this match (and haven't watched the WWE in 2 years), but I agree completely with that statement. I simply can't enjoy a match when it involves wrestlers that I don't give a damn about. Give me Hogan vs. Warrior exchanging shoves for 10 minutes and I'll love it. Give me Bret vs. Michaels for an hour, and I fast forward to the end (or stop the tape completely at the beginning). I can't enjoy a match that involves guys I don't have an attachment to, one way or another. And I honestly can't imagine watching Shawn and Cena wrestle for an hour. That's insane.

I just feel better for getting it off my chest. Hi I'm Jevz... I have something to say... Cena isn't the whipping boy and fact is that he isn't really a face or heel his matches are able to be: OUTSTANDINGLY GREAT. Why? It's because of who he is facing and the way matches are set up with him in a gimmick that has both good or bad points. Thing is, no one really wants to admit that the only stepping up his game he is doing is climbing the ring steps. His matches would be better if he didn't go along with what Vince McMahon is telling him to do. Because that isn't working. And before you tell me about his "charisma" LOL... from when he was rapping.... I introduce you to: The Prototype! At least with that look he was believable as a face and he was the guy who had enthusiasim and spark to what he was doing. If Cena was really a face, a full babyface....he would have the guts to be The Prototype and yes, he would be able to be a full face and he'd get over. That's what. The rapping wasn't really a gimmick which would work long. Ditto for the stuff he is doing now. However if he was The Prototype again, as a babyface with a edge, it would work. The sort of guy who doesn't take crap off anyone but takes a stand and kicks ass on the guys he is facing in a match, overpowers them and sends their asses down for a pinfall. No matter what. I am sick of the babyface in peril deal and think it is just a huge disservice to John anyhow. So face facts: John Cena isn't the whipping boy. His fans....and other wrestlers fans....they are the whipping boys and girls of the IWC Smarks and you know it. So don't tell me different. What is retarted about Cena saluting? That is the most idiotic comment..or one of them anyway that I have heard. Besides if he salutes people that shouldn't change. Even if when he does bring back his Prototype look he can salute if he really wants to. There is no real reason for him not to do that so shut your mouth. He should still do the saluting to those watching at home and those in the live audience. Or he could come up with something better. That is what I say. *Quietly grabs my 150 lb. dog that is aggressive towards and hates strangers* By the way...Edge sucks ass and should get his ass kicked and so should Khali for doing that crap that he did to Cena. Was garbage anyway.

Why is it every week a new a**hole registers a name and proceeds to overly love one wrestler or promotion to the point that you know he's a fake? Yes, there are Cena, Lashley, Batista, TNA and ROH fans out there, but come on.

You're not alone Kash, I didn't love the HBK vs Cena match from Raw either. I didn't hate the match or anything, but I didn't think it was as great as a lot of people did. Just because the match was almost an hour, that didn't mean to me that it was good. It was just long. I know that typically a match that goes 25 or even 30 minutes is going to be good because it has sufficient build-up and psychology. The problem is that HBK and Cena took what should have been a 20 minute match, and they stretched it into almost 60. They stretched it out by basically just repeating things over and over again.
When CM Punk and Joe went an hour in ROH, sure there were rest holds and stuff. But the difference maker is that they told a very good story in the ring, and there was a tremendous amount of psychology. Had that particular match been 20 minutes, it would have seemed abreviated. But with HBK and Cena, that match didn't have to be as long as it did. In my opinion, the fact that it seemed to drag on forever made it dull.
I will not question that Cena tries very hard in the ring, and he has improved quite a bit over the years. But i just don't buy him yet as a guy who puts on 5-star hour long matches. I commend the effort of both men of course, but to me it just didn't happen.

Ooooooooookay.
The Cena/HBK match was good....pretty good, but not great.
If anything, the Cena-Triple H parallels(as someone pointed out) are even more apparent...a shame, since its not Cena thats the problem, its just the push.

Recently I have been enjoying what Cena has been doing, except for his promo work.
Ever since the Marine he's turned into this gimmick without a gimmick. Is he a marine, a rebel face, a man who stands against the odds or a rapper? I don't know anymore and I don't think he does either. The only thing he does constantly tell us is that he is the Champ!
Bring back rapper Cena! -------------------------------
As for Shawn Micheals I care and I don't care. Some days he is on fire whether it is putting on a great match or having a blast on the mike. Other times he just seems half-hearted with it all.
To be honest once this wrestling year is over I believe Shawn Micheals, Ric Flair, HHH, The Undertaker, The McMahons and Chris Benoit should either retire or take a year off. Not because they are too old, but because they are being relied on too much by the WWE.
The time for something fresh and new is rapidly approach and the nostalgia era is ending.

I had a slightly different reaction - I liked the match but definitely DIDN'T want to see Cena-Michaels III immediately the next week. I found myself thinking "I hope there's some backstage shenanigans and this match gets postponed." Low and behold, I got my wish. Thanks, Khali!
I think a match like that is good... once in a while. I like variety in my RAW.
