Question about Takers streak?

This isn't about whether you think Taker's streak will end at Wrestlemania,instead I was wondering about when exactly did Takers streak begin.Obviously it began with his first Mania win over Snuka,but when did WWE begin to acknowledge he had a streak?

I find it hard to believe that 16 years ago they decided they would begin a streak,and I find it harder to believe they could continue with a plan that began over a decade and a half ago.

So when did they think, "Hey,ye guys notice he's never lost at Wrestlemania? Let's make that into something and stick with it"

Probably only a few years ago. My memories hazy, so I'm not sure that they were acknowledging it in the '90s at all.
It's pretty neat when streaks occur like that & not by design. That's why I like Christian Cage's undefeated streak in TNA. There was no plan behind it, it was just incidental.

I think the first time they mentioned it was WrestleMania 13. JR pointed out that he'd never lost at a Wrestlemania

They've mentioned it in passing from time to time, but they only started discussing it as a "streak" about 3 or 4 years ago.

I remember after he beat Flair at Wrestlemnia X-8 that he held up 9 fingers then raised the last one to show 10.

That's the first real vivid memory I have of them emphasising it.

I could be wrong,X-8 was my the first Wrestlemania I watched live,which is probably why it sticks out.
Can anyone remember a specific reference before that?

I really can't remember anything as specific as that. I don't recall it being mentioned at WM X-Seven & he wasn't at WM 2000. But I tend to have a pretty crappy memory anyway.

Fun fact: After this mania, Taker will have had mania matches with all 4 members of Evolution.

I think it was when it reached 10. I mean Edge (5-0), Cena (3-0) and Batista (2-0) are undefeated at Wrestlemania but, they don't mention that so I guess it has to be an extremely high number to be noteworthy.

I'm sure they acknowledged it at X-Seven against HHH, but after he beat Flair it really became a big deal.

It was way before what most of you guys have said. I remember it being a big deal before WrestleMania XIV.

I think he might have mentioned it on RAW when trying to get the Title match at WM but, its never gotten the attention that Taker's has.

Isn't Edge like 7-0 now?

Also, they mentioned that RVD is undefeated at WM last year (but it is like 3-0). Although I doubt that will be the case after this year's WM

I hope Edge loses at Mania this year. Nobody deserves this streak except for The Undertaker. I do like Edge, but he doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same league as the Deadman.

I think he's 8-0 but, all Wikipedia (should have gone elsewhere but didn't) had was 5-0.

I remember that too, I felt it odd to mention RVD's streak..its like they feel the need to say who has a streak..no matter how small it is

I'm watching WrestleMania XI right now and I just heard McMahon say "The Undertaker has never lost at WrestleMania." That was the first time Taker's undefeated streak was mentioned.

Yeah, they mentioned it. Well, actually, Edge mentioned it first, and then the announcers said that he was correct.

As for Undertaker's undefeated streak at WM, I think that got mentioned first around WrestleMania X-Seven. I guess WWF/E realized they never had 'Taker lose at WM and decided to run with it.

Edit: WM XI was the first mention of it.
