Nowadays, it is just a fireman carry slam. I remember back when he started in the WWE the F-U looked more like a DVD. Did the WWE told Cena to stop that variation due to safe-style?

They told Cena that Perry Saturn was too big of a star to be stealing from.
I honestly don't remember the FU ever being a DVD.

When he first did it it was a lot closer to a true DVD. Then he did the absolutely awful throw off the shoulders. Now it's at least passable.

Yeah, that's the problem with the FU these days... it just doesn't look like a high-impact move... like a sidewalk slam in terms of the pain it would cause. The DVD looks a lot more painful, but I guess has the higher propensity for actual injury.

I always thought the F-U was supposed to be the F-5. I remember Cena was feuding with Brock Lesnar at the time, and he was like "yeah instead of doing the F-5, it's the F-U."
To this day it still blows my mind how Cena is marketed to kids, and his finishing move is called the F-U.

I've always seen the F-U as a reverse "Buring Hammer"
I still prefer the one armed DVD he used at first...

I'd imagine if WWE were to use the Burning Hammer, it would be done the same way Cena does the F-U, but with the opponent back laying flat on the guy's shoulders(instead of the front).

Candice invented the Burning Hammer.

The Rock Bottom looks cooler, but the F-U would hurt more then it...

I've always seen the F-U as a reverse "Buring Hammer" Considering, though, that the Burning Hammer is an inverted DVD, then we're right back where we started. Jed Shaffer ~And that is with Cena having a stupid finisher.

When did the F-U stop being a Death Valley Driver? Sometime close to his face turn.

(totally sarcastic post)
WWE Creative felt that Cena would look weak if he fell to the ground while driving his opponent to the mat so they told him to stay standing.

When he beat JBL for the title at Wrestlemania 21, it was the only time it resembled a DVD more than a Fireman's Carry.

A couple of times, maybe once or twice, he used the Cradle Shock. This was when he was feuding with JBL and the Cabinet and would routinely beat up OJ and the Bashams. One time I remember him hitting the Cradle Shock in Danny.

it looks cool, i like the move.
REally same sort of impact as a powerbomb, and It looks cool when he falls down with them.
i remember on smackdown he did different versions, like the fall to the side CHris Daniels style (I can't believe CD does the DVD and Chokeslam as transition moves), the sit out FU, and the STanding one...i liked the standing one because he jumped with it

One time I remember him hitting the Cradle Shock in Danny. Yes finally someone else remembers John Cena's FU's on the end of his push on Smackdown... why he showed up on Raw and reverted back to the old FU I'll never understand since he'd been doing the new way for like 3 months.
