Hulk Hogan, undertaker, Shawn Michaels, storm Nigeria for peace and unity championship
Posted to the Web: Thursday, March 08, 2007
FOR the first time in the history of wresting in the country, top rated wrestlers from both the World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) and English Wrestling Federation will storm some selected Nigerian cities for a championship tagged “Wrestling for Peace and Unity in Nigeria”.
The championship, which will take place in April and August 2007, is an initiative of the Ultimate Wresting and Charity Organisation (TUWCO), a non-governmental organisation. The championship seeks to promote peace and smooth transition to the next republic, enhance economic growth, provision of four wresting gymnasiums, training scholarship for wrestlers and donation to charity organisations.
Some of the wrestlers that will feature in the bouts across the country include Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Barbarian, The Rock and The Stinger. Others include Pitbull Johnson, Mighty Mia, Jade, Dwayne Douglas Johnson and Steve Manelli. They will be joined by Nigerian wrestlers like De Ultimate Commander, Nigeria’s reigning Heavyweight Champion and Jimmy Palm, among others.
As part of the build-up to the championship, an event logo has been launched in Lagos. Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, De Ultimate Commander, founder, The Ultimate Wrestling and Charity Organisation (TUWCO), the promoter of the bouts, said the organisation decided to exploit the unifying element of sports, especially wrestling, which is traditional to the country.
“As you know, in Nigeria, all our differences are forgotten whenever it is time for one sporting event or the other. We want to take advantage of that passion to preach the message of peace, especially in the Niger-Delta. Don’t forget as well that it would also be a good image enhancing platform for the country in view of the recent negative publicity, particularly, in the international press.
“Beside these, it is going to be a golden opportunity to provide various facilities like gymnasiums for upcoming wrestlers and youths to develop their skills and interests in the game. We will also grant training scholarship to distinguishing budding wrestlers, who can then go ahead to build a career”, he said.
While unveiling the logo, the project’s Event Manager, Mr. Jemine Ogbemi said the choice of the dove was instructive because it is a symbol of peace, the main focus of the project while the globe represents the world, which is the projected reach of the initiative. The green and white are colours of Nigeria, the take-off point of the global project.
Many notable Nigerians have thrown their weight behind the championship including General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd) who si the chairman of the local organising committee, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Chief Alex Akinyele, DIG Mike Okiro, Mr. Zack Orji and Mr. Morris Atula, among others

My brain has no idea how this could work. While I'm not going to out and out call BS, I'm a bit skeptical.

Hulk Hogan, The Rock, and Sting wrestling? In Nigeria? Uh...yeah I'ma go ahead and call BS on this one It's from a newspaper in Nigeria. So it could be true. And it's a well known, often used wrestling hoax. It's most common in England from what I've heard....you advertise big names (Usually The Undertaker is among them) to appear, then you get HORRIBLE rip-offs that make The New Razor and Diesel look great in comparison. Hogan refused to go overseas in 2002 when he was under contract to the WWE because of potential discomfort on the airplane. Rock has no desire to wrestle. It aint happening, and if it does, I'll buy you a ticket myself.

Okay I did find sources so I was not making it up myself! I wish I did than I can mock it. So I will not call this BS until I find out it truely is BS. Plus I would like it to be real.
EDIT: Plus Nigeria is dealing with a bloody Civil War over the River Delta in Nigeria for control over Oil. So it would be nice to do something for the civilians of Nigeria.
