SATURDAY NIGHT MAIN EVENT averaged a 2.2 in metered-market households with a 5 share. The previous Saturday, the Saturday Night Live repeat did a 3.9 and a 10 share.

I don't want this to become a SNL bash thread, but the shows I've seem makes me believe that it doesn't deserve those ratings.
What was the last SNME rating? That would have been nice to include.

Well, I guess it's a decent rating as it could've been a lot worse with what they had.
Long way from the days where it got a 11.6.

This is because NBC aired it too late.

This is because NBC aired it too late. Honestly that's not an excuse when SNME in the 80's was pulling in 10.6's and 11.6's in that same exact 11:30 timeslot. WWE just didn't really promote this show at all, apart from a few commercials here and there.

Theres also the fact that in the 80's that was like their BIG show and there werent nearly as many channels to choose from like we have today between cable and satallite and the internet. Plus they taped it to and everyone probably read the spoilers.

Plus it didn't air in some markets (for a charity thing), was pushed back even later by the hockey game and other things.

It just might've, but wrestling isn't that hot right now and Saturday night isn't a hotbed for wrestling like it was in the 80's-90's, so it'll get lower ratings in future broadcasts.

Is that a good rating compared to other shows in that timeslot?

Yeah, so someone puts on there tv at 11:30 goes "Oh, Hockeys on" they start watching something else, since shows begin on the hour and half hour they're not going to switch back when they've started something new already.

That might be true with some people, but not everyone would think that way. If I was looking forward to the event and saw hockey on I'd change the channel and then change back when the other show went to commercial.

I'm talking about the 90% that aren't like us. That watch it with a whatever attitude, not ones that want to discuss it and stuff.

Lance Storm got it right: oversaturation of the WWE product.

Remember:
1) In the 80's, SNME was a virtual PPV in and of itself. Today, it's another episode of Raw.
2) In the 80's you never got to see name wrestlers face each other. All you got on TV was squash matches. Today, we get name vs. name for 5 hours a week, not counting PPVs.
3) In the 80's, there were no spoiler sites available online leaking the results.
4) In the 80's, wrestling was much "cooler" than it is now.
5) In the 80's, both NBC and WWF used to actually promote and build up the show for weeks or months. These days, the WWE barely even mentions it themselves, and when they do it's a week (2 at most) before the show.
SNME will never again be as popular or even close to it as it was in the 80's. It's long since outlived its usefulness.
The only way SNME will ever become popular again:
1) Cut the PPVs back down to a reasonable number. 2) Have SNME be a live show. 3) Have a decent buildup with matches people actually WANT to see, not the same garbage we've seen 45 times on Raw.
And even then, they'll never see the 10. and 11.x numbers they used to. 3-4 at best.
Not that they'd ever do any of that, mind you....

Don't forget about the horrible lead-in show that was hockey. It was the lowest rated show in the HISTORY of NBC.
