Vengeance: Night of Champions for Gooker of the Year.
So few entertaining pieces, and so many disapppointments and WTF moments. Plus, it isn't too early to start nominations. We're halfway through 2007 now, so I think it's high time to start throwing those nominations out there. Very few good things, if any, happened during this PPV. It was a complete waste of my time and money. Things started off promising I guess.
JWY vs. Chavo - Decent match, champion retains. We get a Malenko vignette, always good. Still, I was thinking and hoping for a title change. Oh, well. Still a decent match.
Santino Marella vs. Umaga - Huh!? Ok, we get to see a Steamboat vignette and appearance, then a complete mockery of his legacy with this joke of a match that seemed to last all of about two minutes. Since WHEN has a referee disqualified a wrestler for punching? Ok, yeah, I know it's kayfabe against the rules, but EVERYONE punches, and for way longer than Umaga was punching Santino. GREAT way to put Santino over, writers. I guess that's why the crowd was cheering for Umaga at the end. Ok, maybe something cool will come along and make us forget about that.
CM Punk vs. Johnny Nitro - Winner, by clean pinfall, your new ECW Champion, Johnny Nitro! ...........*crickets*............Why? Keep in mind I know why, but why Nitro? You have an entire roster of talented workers, workers that get a RESPONSE out of the crowd. Workers with TALENT. Nitro gets the call. I am baffled, and am still in shock by the time I see MVP CHEAT to beat the 108 year-old Ric Flair.
MVP vs. Ric Flair - Keep in mind, I have nothing but respect for Flair. I think he's the greatest wrestler of all time. But, he's also old. Really old. Here you have MVP who has proven he can go toe-to-toe with the top stars in the 'E, getting DOMINATED by Flair. So dominated, that he has to CHEAT to beat the 220 year-old Flair. Way to keep his credibility on a high level. I suppose all heels just need to use cowardly tactics. That's the WWE way. Moving along. At this point I'm baffled as to what I'm watching, yet I continue to hope for something cool. I'm still asking myself why I sat through the next match.
Deuce & Domino vs. Sgt. Slaughter and Jimmy Snuka - Yeah, Snuka. Again, I have all the respect in the world for our ring veterans. But for Christ's sake, Snuka almost broke his neck running under a leaping Domino. Slaughter did his best to salvage that embarrassment, but his age also showed. His age showed back in 1991. Again I ask, WHY!? Who booked this? You've got plenty of YOUNG and ACTIVE tag teams ready to hopefully salvage a joke of a PPV. This match was really hard to watch. At this point I was really feeling sympathetic for the crowd, who paid way more than 40 dollars to watch this garbage going on. Moving along.
Candice Michelle vs. Melina - Melina was solid, being one of the two women who has TRULY improved. Candice wins with her flying hip attack. Great idea to take the belt off the female that can actually work. Candice may have improved, but she still isn't good by a long shot. Way WAY too soon. But, honestly, I couldn't care less. Let her hold onto the belt before they pass it off to Kelly Kelly or something.
So now the main event. Cena vs. Orton vs. Foley vs. Lashley vs. Booker - Cena overcomes yadda yadda yadda. The cherry on top of a monumentally bad PPV. Horrid. Putrid. Pathetic. Ghastly. Apalling. Atrocious. So much potential just flushed down the drain.
Ugh.
