Not that it matters much in this case, but GHB was a major factor in much of Chris Adams' problems later in his life. Granted, the big problem there is that when he and a girlfriend overdosed on it, he fell asleep and she died, but he was linked to it at other times as well.

It is getting to the (irritating) point where I've decided to give up on the news until the toxicology comes out. How many different things have been blamed for what happened at this point? We've got to be near double digits.

-Benoit got a prescription for the anti-depressant Xanax at the doctor's visit on Friday. Xanax is not an anti-depressent it's anti-anxiety. Like if you have a fear of flying or are nervous or get really strung up on things you take this to calm yourself down and go through with it. it's also a bit of a muscle relaxant. If he was prescribed Xanax, it opens up a whole new kind of thing as Xanax is prescribed to people with fear, people who have high anxiety, and people with some pain. it is also a controlled substance. so you do a get a bit "high" off of it. Seriously this makes things a bit more sketchy.

411mania.com was where I read it. Presumably you could read them at any site that's been following the news of the tragedy since it started. I trust Meltzer over 411mania

I'd love to sort through 411mania, but if anyone could provide a link that cites the AP about the plastic bag thing that everyone seems to be holding onto for dear life.

Apter was quickly cut off as well this time when he very eloquently tried to have a serious discussion about the reasons for the Benoit tragedy on "primetime crime" just now on Fox News and the expert they had on the phone with him as well also agreed a bit and they quickly hushed them both at that point, especially after Apter finally said something to the effect of "the mainstream media is determined to scream AAAHH ITS ALL STEROIDS IT HAS TO BE STEROIDS!!" to which the host quickly dismissed them both. This is incredibly annoying, but so hard not to stop for a moment when you see people like Apter on tv. They're simply not going to let anyone have any screen time that has anything to say that isn't negative towards the WWE and especially focused on steroids. Explains why Debra is brought back every night.

They will focus on steroids until the toxicology report comes back.
If no steroids are found in his system, then maybe and hopefully they will back down (although I do feel WWE needs to do more anyway to stamp out steroid use, which will only happen IMO when Vince switches focus to smaller wrestlers).
If steroids ARE found in his system, then prepare for this to get MUCH worse.

The media wouldn't be giving it this much sustained coverage if they don't want to report every last detail.

I found a reference to teh plastic bag on Newsday. If it is the same one that I saw, I call BS. The one I saw someone posted on TMZ.com, claiming to be related to one of the cops involved. It claimed that the evidence supported the idea that Nancy killed Daniel, and Chris killed her for doing it, then himself over the whole deal. It had many facts wrong, including the locations of the bodies. Edit: I changed my text in this post, because I had confused the TMZ one with another crackpot theory presented this week.

since when is dave meltzer an investigator in this case and where exactly is he getting his info from? there is no way benoit could have used a crossface on daniel. daniel is too small to get the proper leverage. think about it people. i think meltzer is just another person looking for his mainstream 15 minutes of fame and the news agencies are touting him as a so called expert.

I've never heard from any offical source the words crippler crossface to explain how Chris murdered his son. I have heard the phrase choke or modified choke to explain it. Could it be that people in the IWC have taken that to mean crossface?

Whoa, watching the Geraldo repeat, he says steroids and prescription drugs were found "nearby" Benoit's body.
I know they were found in the home, but he practically made it sound like there were syringes and pills at Benoit's feet...
Another example of the shoddy reporting that has been flying on cable news.

Actually if there was a plastic bag involved then I;m not sure the actual, um, "hold" matters that much. A plastic bag will do the job.
Dunno bout steroids, but I have seen several references to an empty wine bottle being very close to the scene, and ten empty beer cans in the trash.

Could it be that people in the IWC have taken that to mean crossface? That's what I think. People have to understand that a mat wrestler, especially one trained by someone with the background of Stu Hart, probably knows a dozen different ways to lethally choke someone, many of which would be applied from behind. If I come up behind you, on top of you, and wrap my forearm/elbow around your neck and squeeze, am I applying a "variant" of the Crippler Crossface? Only by a ridiculous, sensational leap. I'm choking you. That's all you need to call it. Choking.
