Sorry for not looking over the last few pages, but Meltzer has now confirmed this as well.
Lowest rating in over a decade.

The last sub-3. RAW show was the last show of 2006 (12/25) which garnered a 2.7 rating. The last 'normal' RAW show to do a sub-3. rating was 12/15/1997 with a 2.7 rating.
They've done 2.whatever in recent years but only for holidays (Christmas, 4th of July). 1997 was the last year they routinely did 2's

Nope. Somebody posted them a few pages back, and the ratings, from before the Benoit incident and in the weeks after, have mostly held, although there have been weeks where they dropped maybe .1 or .2. Nothing to indicate a full point drop, though. There was no source for that or anything though. I'm not calling him a liar, but I don't think we should just accept those numbers either. This is where I got the numbers from. www.100megsfree4.com/wiawrestling/pages/wwf/wwfraw.htmThe site has been fairly accurate, though I haven't looked at ratings since forever.

It wouldn't happen soon afterwards because people didn't know the details of the situation yet. Remember the whole Salute to Benoit in place of the Salute to McMahon? At the time, they were saluting the great wrestler that everybody loved. Things, of course, are different now. Somebody noted that perhaps the fanbase following the tragedy was curious. I agree with that. Perhaps people were curious to see what direction the company was going to go next following the situation. Let me tell you, one of the first Raw's I've watched all year was the Raw one week after the tragedy (I'm usually not home for Raw). I actually blocked time out of my schedule so I could watch that one episode. I watched regularly up until this week (had to work). Yeah, but there haven't really been any new details for 2 weeks now, so why didn't the drop happen then? Perhaps the curiosity has waned, and the full-on wrestling bashing is kicking in. Granted, the bashing is now not primarily from the media, as the story has blown over a bit, but now from other non-fans (again, more so than normal) in either direct ("Yo man, wrestling? You're crazy, did you hear about that Benoit guy?") or indirect ways (peer pressure of sorts). Again, it's REALLY not cool to be a wrestling fan right now, and the whole wrestling fan stigma has been magnified tremendously. With that said, we won't really know until we get the ratings for next week's Raw. (Edit: Hell, even with next week's ratings, we still won't know exactly what's the cause. We'll just have more and less credible arguments) I will admit, the rating this week is a little bit of a mystery to me, and I'm just speculating along with legions of others.

I am one of those fans who did stop watching wrestling............and it is both the booking and the handling of the Benoit situation from both sides that drove me away.

It could be that the show this week was actually to blame for the low ratings if they somehow just sunk quickly through the whole show. Add me to the list of people who wants to see the quarter-hour ratings. How do the reporters get them? Is there a service they subscribe to?
Anyway, I will blame this on a lack of.... let's say the Mexicools.

I'm worried about ECW.
I don't care if they get a 1.3 again. Just as long as they don't have a significant (Less than 1.0) ratings drop.

Again, it's REALLY not cool to be a wrestling fan right now, and the whole wrestling fan stigma has been magnified tremendously. WWE doesn't even think it's cool, as in every WWE magazine they pretty much bash their fanbase.

RAW RATINGS TANKS by Dave Scherer @ 4:56:34 PM on 8/1/2007
This morning, I mentioned here on the site that I heard the Raw rating was so low I had to confirm it before I would post it. Well, I have done that with WWE sources. After three straight weeks of doing a 3.4 cable rating according to Nielsen Media Research, Monday's show did just a 2.5. That is a drop of 26% from the previous week and a downright scary number. When I first heard it, I thought it had to be a mistake given that Raw never drops that much in a week. I am still somewhat hesitant to believe it wasn't affected by some kind of glitch along the way. Next week's number will be telling for WWE, for sure. If it stays low, WWE has serious, serious problems.
The 2.5 is the lowest non-holiday rating since October 27, 1997, which was a 2.3. That show was a taped Raw (taped on October 21st) and headlined by WWF World Champion Bret Hart vs. Ken Shamrock, Intercontinental Champion Owen Hart vs. Ahmed Johnson and WWF Tag Team Champions The Legion Of Doom vs. Los Boricuas. It also had one of Jim Cornette's rants about how horrible WCW was.
That same night, a live WCW Nitro did a 4.3 headlined by World Champion Hulk Hogan vs. Diamond Dallas Page, Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage, U.S. Champion Curt Hennig vs. Booker T, Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Jericho and Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Dean Malenko.

The thing that makes me wonder is, how did Raw go from 3.4 to 2.5 in just ONE WEEK? Surely, if the ratings were going to decline, they would decline more gradually than a huge dip?

I think that while the Benoit fallout and Cena burnout probably didn't help.....I think it's just the case of wrestling fans FINALLY saying "Smurf it!!!" after being forcefed a ever increasing diet of CRAP by WWE for the last 5-6 years. (And yes, I know no one is FORCING them to watch, but those who like wrestling pretty much have Few true options....as far as mainstream wrestling is concerned)
I hope the ratings sink lower.....WWE needs to be scared into doing something truly cool again.....they have the talent. But they've been resting on their laurels, and hey....why not...the rating was steady, so I'm sure Vince and the others thought they could keep doing the same thing, and the ratings would stay in the 3s range.
Hah hah to WWE.

I would guess the whole Benoit situation and the stigma attached to the WWE because of the scathing news coverage it has received ever since have caught up with them. Probably is'nt the only reason but it has to be a big factor in my opinion.

For one, I feel like that magazine is written by a bunch of guys who never got the job at Maxim. It's pretty terrible.
Two, I think they're making fun of the fanbase kinda like video game mags make fun of their fanbase. It's all in good fun, as much as I hate to take up for that crap magazine.
