I didn't feel I was buying into the Mr McMahon character, he has had so many on screen relationships with some very hot divas like Trish drooling all over him, that has to be somewhat of an ego boost off screen. I know he doesn't write angles, but I'd assume he controls his own lines for the most part.

I don't know if the guy you were talking to is necessarily right about Vince creating the angle to massage his own ego, but there has been a pattern over the years of Mr. McMahon being in on screen scenarios with the young ladies, much of it being rather pathetic. Does he come up with all of it? Probably not. Does any of it ever make any money? Not really. Could he say, "You know, this is kind of pointless. Can't you guys be thinking of ways to get the talent over and sell pay per views, merchandise, and house show gates?" Absolutely. Like it or not, people love to see that arrogant prick get beat up and humiliated, I think he is the best heel going because he works some of the "smarks", you can't honestly believe that he is the same man as portrayed on TV. Well, first off, people may or may not like it, but it rarely ever translates into anything that actually makes any money. They're not selling out house shows around the country with McMahon get fondled by young attractive girls storylines. And second, I think the deal is we know he's not that guy on TV, but some of us suspect he's trying to live vicariously through that guy on TV.

I think that all of that is just adding to this fantastic character he has created. The on screen man is someone who would get an ego boost from making all his divas make out with him. But the real life man is not like that.

Make no mistake, a big part of this is just to stroke Vince McMahon's own ego. However, its not the part about him being presumed to have slept with more women than Hugh Hefner. Its about him being on TV. Make no mistake, Vince loves being in the spotlight. He got a taste for it back in the Attitude Era, and it seems likely that the only thing that will eventually pry him away from the center ring will be some dramatic turn in his health. As for his on air "affairs" with various divas, I think that is mostly Vince's own bizarre sense of humor coming out. The guy clearly loves to lampoon himself. He also finds endless jokes about various bodily functions to be hilarious. He also found the idea of one of the companies top main eventers raping a mannequin made up to look like a corpse funny. I also get the impression that he is really just waiting to see how far he can push things till Linda finally asks him to stop.

Did Vince write this storyline, or did some WWE writer who wants a big raise/vacation pitch it..... "Okay Vince, here's the plan, we announce that some wretler is your son, and before we announce who it is, we imply that you've had SO much sex, and that your Johnson is massive, so that it could be anyone and it'll be the greatest who dunnit since "WHo ran over Stone cold". Of course it will mean you'll be back on TV a whole lot, and that various up and coming talent will get backseated AGAIN, but don't the fans really all just want to hear about you? " Yeah Vinny Mac has been pretty high on himself since he came back from the dead, can't wait to see which young superstar's career sky rockets as a result of this angle. (Why do I fear they're gonna use Triple H, thus making a wacky "You married your sister" storyline) You do realise that the whole point of this angle is to put over a wrestler? Not to 'backstange' anyone or massage Vince's ego. Every single angle he allows is made for the sole purpose of putting wrestlers over. It's like during the dating game segment last week, you had smarks in the crowd chanting 'we want wrestling'. They were so smart, but failed to realise it will make a bunch of matches better in the future because people will actually care about Santino as a heel. When Vince talks about how he is a ladies man, first and foremost it puts him over as a heel (which is always a good thing because it will get whoever he is feuding with more over basically just because people want that person to get one over on Mr McMahon.) It gets a diva over, which can help such as in the case of Keibler and mainly Trish, but the main reason is because it can spawn a bunch of angles in itself where feuds can be sparked and matches can happen - all putting wrestlers over because there is story behind the feud. Every single angle Vince ever comes up with is to put someone on his roster over, not to massage his ego. Anyone who believes so is a huuuuge mark, because they actually believe the Mr McMahon character is how he acts in real life, and doesn't understand the business sense behind it. He didn't win the ECW title, fake his own death, shag a load of women, have relationships with divas, etc etc to massage his own ego in real life. That notion is ridiculous.
