ok so i'm totally not getting into this debate...as i really don't care. i watch both products and enjoy both for different reasons. same with mistakes. both make them.
anyway back to the topic of the thread:
i just finished watching the PPV, and here's my three cents. (i gave it three stars)
Rhino & Senshi w/ Hector Guerrero vs. LAX w/ Konnan:
LAX i'm glad to say is super over and have stayed that way. they should have the Dud-i mean, Team 3D's spot right now. heck, they had it, but i'm thinking that the Dudley's have done to tag wrestling what Angle has done to the world title picture/Joe's push.
as has been said before this was the first in way wrong booking decisions.
LAX imo should have come out on top, and didn't.
this feud with Hector is asinine and makes little sense. (and don't start on "nothing in TNA does"..i'm just saying LAX, like other homegrown talent is being tossed aside.)
Jay "Black Machismo" Lethal vs. Chris Sabin:
do i really have to say anything? match of the night for me. the pop and cheers of the crowd were AMAZING ( i mean they were real and not forced like so many chants). i totally jumped off my seat and clapped at the end. so yeah, that's all i got to say about that one.
Frank Wycheck & Jerry Lynn vs. James Storm & Ron "The Truth" Killings:
still being relatively new to TNA (since Oct/Dec 06) i really like the Truth. amazing wrestler and watching his stuff from a few years back has been cool. that being said this match was pretty stupid. again the wrong person/people won. some know i am a James Storm mark as well, but notwithstanding that and not being from Tennessee or following sports other than wrestling, i have no clue who Wychek is. look i just checked and i spelled his name wrong. oh well got it right the first time at least. that's how much i pay attention to the guy. if i were at a ppv i prolly woulda spelled his name wrong on the sign.
i'm off the match now, but suffice to say it p.o'd me hardcore. i was disgusted and rolled my eyes.
Bob Backlund vs. Alex Shelley:
yes, Backlund is in amazing shape for his age.
no he should not have won the match. again another bad decision on the outcome. Shelley could easily be the star to help carry TNA and they waste him. he has the fan base, he has the moveset and more than has the personality, but for some reason they don't tap into that as much as they should.
this match was way too short, and i think what made me bothered the most was that there was no real psychology to it. it kinda just was there flapping around like a dead fish. Backlund won, i threw my arms in the air and spilled my Pepsi in the process.
Voodoo Kin Mafia vs. Basham & Damaja:
i fast forwarded to the end of this one. Hoyt turn which could finally make this go somewhere a bit more interesting. one of the smarter booking decisions in my opinion. i'm not Hoyt fan by any means, but it didn't leave as stale a taste in my mouth as other matches. maybe it's better by comparison only?
we'll see in time i guess.
Eric Young vs. Robert Roode:
i like both guys and am one of the few who try and defend Roode. this match didn't sway me either way. i sat through it, and yeah it was predictable, and the good guy won AGAIN (did a heel win at all on this ppv? el oh el)
but yeah, it went through the motions and the crowd behind eric and booing Roode made me happy since most times it's "Let's go first guy........let's go second guy..........let's go first guy.......let's go second guy" from the crowd. it's pretty rad to see someone legit get booed.
sleeper ending, but i was awake for it and it's nice that this is hopefully over so both can move on to not facing each other.
Team 3D vs. Rick Steiner & Road Warrior Animal:
i fast forwarded through this one after Animal's introduction. i cannot stand "team 3D" and stopped at the end and then fast forwarded it again.
Sting vs. Christopher Daniels:
wrong wrong wrong. wrong wrong wrong wrong. where's that sig when i need it. i was pretty into this based on the psychology alone. i love mind games in wrestling. Daniels is great in that role and Sting was fitting the mentor gone wrong niche nicely. i do agree with another poster that said they should've gotten more promo time and at least have Sting counter Daniels rant during the PPV.....but alas......
the good guy wins again. i'm officially renaming Slammiversary to Face-aversary: where the bad guys never win. too bad i don't like faces........most of the time.
all i can say about that match is the same as a few others, bad booking. if Sting was gonna win he should've won the same fashion he was with Abyss, with mind games or outsmarting him to add a cool dynamic to further the fued.
Abyss vs. Tomko:
i really dig Abyss. and i was glad to see him win. (see i like the face some times) well that and Tomko just didn't deserve a win over Abyss yet. would rather have taken him in the KOTM match but this was ok too.
if anything i got to laugh my butt off at the cube of cardboard boxes they fell on. someone should make a thread (if there isn't already...i came right to this one) about the number of errors on the PPV. in no way am i flaming the company, just after the 6th or 7th one i was kinda like "c'mon guys".
again off the match i go....the tacks were cool, seeing the legitimately in his arms was a great shot, and it was a first time seeing broken "glass" in a match. would i watch it again? prolly not, but it was cool to see once.
King of the Mountain Match:
this match pissed me off. i'm not sure if i can get in trouble for that, but i was livid. again someone else stated: not having Joe or Styles even qualify was stupid. i'm so sick of Angle i can't stand it. or him. "well don't watch then" someone might say, eh, i got Black Machismo and Alex Shelley to keep me watching.
this match was well paced and thought out, i will give it that. Chris Harris came off looking like a potential contender. Joe should've won. hands down.
and why is Angle now Samoa Joe? a year ago he wouldn't have offered his hand and if someone did he would have destroyed him. it's like they neutered Joe and gave his "character" to Angle. which like someone said in another thread...all it makes Angle look like is a bully. it made Joe look like a badass. like he could seriously "kill you".
Also Angle seems to rely on that ankle lock like a Ric Flair chop. it's like he's almost lost his psychology in the ring. personally i would rather have seen Joe vs. the Angle i saw 4 years ago. if at all.
AJ Styles is king of the highspot, once again doing insane spot of the night, and like most he looks fluid even falling down.
the ending came and i was yelling "no way!!!!!!!" among a few other words. i'm not happy and just shook my head and took my headphones off in disgust.
OVERALL:
not to rehash too much more what's already been said...i had high hopes for this, but again this turned into Faceaversary and for whatever reason the bad guys cannot leave winners. or even on top.
well except for LAX getting the beat down on Hector in the end. which made me smile b/c that was a little bit of old LAX coming back. but it's even debatable if they're heels or not.
three stars from PHi and remember it's all my opinion. so no flaming please.
