My apologies if this has already been posted. I didn't see it anywhere and I used the search feature.

I like the fairytale personally. Besides Eddie being extremely over at the time with his lying, cheating and stealing gimmick wasn't Orton in the doghouse for something or another?

THE death of 38-year-old Eddie Guerrero was a huge tragedy for wrestling – and it left one of the great mysteries.
When he passed away on November 13, 2005, the grappling legend was set to meet Batista and Randy Orton in a triple threat match for the world heavyweight crown.
With title holder Batista injured, there were strong rumours that WWE boss Vince McMahon had decided Guerrero would win championship gold for the second time in his illustrious career. And since his death, those rumours have turned into a semi-fact – the fairytale ending to an amazing career.
Yet the two other competitors in the-match-that-never-was have spoken for the first time and revealed that talk of an Eddie win was just that, a fairytale. In his new book Batista Unleashed, Dave writes of his close friend:
“The plan was to pass the title back to Randy. But I wanted them to put it on Eddie. I’d told him earlier that I was going to Vince to ask him to do that.
“Well, Eddie called me and left a message saying that he really appreciated what I was going to do, but that it was the wrong decision. Randy should be champ, not him.
“‘We should do what Vince says. Vince is smart,’ said Eddie. ‘He knows his business, and he wouldn’t make a wrong decision. It’s what is best for this company.’”
“He added that he loved me and appreciated that I wanted him to have the title, even though it was the wrong decision.”
And Orton confirmed to us: “The day Eddie died – me, him and Batista were supposed to have a three-way match. I was supposed to get the title that night, because Batista had torn his lat.”
