I think a lesser performer would have made his character offensive, but I never saw that with him. All of this just reminds me of Vito's character of "guy who wears a dress" went from a punishment to him actually getting over with it because dude embraced it and got people invested in it when, by all accounts, it could have gone horribly wrong. And then they took him off TV and was never seen again because he dared to get over. That Vito gimmick ruled. It was also awesome when Perry Saturn had the same thing going on in 98 or 99. He turned it into a full-on like industrial goth look with contacts and makeup and it was dope. But yeah, Rico was cool and he made the 2000s Adrian Adonis thing work really well without being offensive. Talented guy, extremely underappreciated and underremembered simply because he was doing it in the era he was doing it in.

We joke a lot about Global Force Wrestling, especially when Jeff Jarrett used an MLM gold scheme to get some cash, but there's a lot of similarities between GFW and AEW. The initial PPV product was filmed in Las Vegas, there was heavy involvement from guys known primarily from their time in Bullet Club including Cody Rhodes, and cross-promotion with Impact Wrestling. The two big differences was that they lacked a guy like Tony Khan who could shoulder some of the initial expenses in getting a nationalized company off the ground, and they also lacked a top talent like Chris Jericho that could legitimize them as a true alternative. Instead, they essentially became green TNA with no network even taking a glace at the Amped tapings, while the RoH/NJPW partnership slid into the void as the alternative number 2 promotion as Impact lost the Spike deal. Still, you got to wonder if something like AEW could have happened if New Japan joined forces with a company with national TV in 2015, when New Japan was starting to catch onto the wider Western audiences, instead of the syndicated Ring of Honor. Could AJ Styles have ended up signing with a promotion like that instead of going to WWE? I really was excited about GFW for a brief period when they were still just in basically the announcement stage. Thought it could've been something special, especially with their stated goal of becoming a modern take on the NWA concept. But it was simply too ambitious, and as much as I like Jarrett as a performer, I dunno that he was really the right guy to spearhead something like that.

I mean, Impact really could've been that promotion in the mid/late-2000s if a shitload of extremely poor decisions weren't made. They built a sizeable audience through the internet before that was something that usually was a big deal. They really could've done it but they were their own worst enemy.

Remember when Panic! at the Disco decided to call their emo fanbase "bullshit", drop the cabaret/electronic vibe they had and go for a Sgt Pepper's pastiche that sounded completely different? Yeah, Pretty. Odd. sold horribly (though I'd say it has 2 actually decent singles on there, just not the lead one) and the argument about whether to continue with that sound or go back to their original one pretty much broke the whole band up. I actually still think that's their best album. I love A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, but I still think Pretty.Odd. is better. One of my favorite albums of the late 2000s, for sure. It was all downhill once Ryan and Jon left the band.

I know that this whole gimmick felt pretty forced for Lex, but he looks great with that belt. Shame he never got it.

He couldn't freeze people or rip their spines out, That's why the gimmick didn't work. He could've, he was simply being held back by the big boys with creative control worried about being overshadowed by the guy who could freeze people and rip their spines out.

At the moment I opened this thread, two of the folders' most recent posts were in Big Show threads. What's up with that? Paul is a member of this forum and is trying to drum up discussion about him for marketing purposes.

What kind of hair would have suited Glacier? Bald, Long Edge style? Something else? Bald or more closely-shaven could've worked, or even just like, slightly more grown out and parted. There's just something terminally uncool about that haircut to me, I always hated it. Also yeah this topic is real silly but I was drinking and watching 1999 Nitros last night, sue me.

Okay so this question may be superficial but
...does anyone else think Glacier may have had a better and more successful career if his hair wasn't like, a bland military buzzcut that grew out a little bit?
I loved the gimmick as a kid and I thought his martial arts based in-ring style was dope as a kid, but I just thought he didn't look cool at all, and I think a lot of that had to do with his hair.
It seems like something so stupid to criticize someone for, especially in a company where looks didn't matter, but he could've looked so much cooler with just...somehwat longer hair.

Eric Bischoff buying out WCW As a WCW gal, I would kill for this. I would love to see how they would've continued to evolve in the 2000's. I can guarantee it would've been better than the Invasion. Even if that did end up eventually happeneing. Bischoff buying WCW is one of my biggest what ifs in wrestling.

I feel like we got a second wave of these gimmicks about ten years later: The Boogeyman, Simon Dean, Deuce & Domino, Hornswoggle, Mordecai, Kizarny etc. - pretty much NewGen v2.. or NuGen :/ You made a good point about mid-2000s WWE. Let's not forget Animal becoming The Road Warrior, a biker. Also, remember the Heartthrobs? Of course you don't, but they were there. I remember The Heartthrobs! But also I was genuinely enjoying that brief resurgence of Gimmicks. It was a fun little time. It also gave us "Just Look At Me"-era Rob Conway, and thank god for that.

SD Just Bring It is pretty lackluster but i found some of the menu music to be very soothing and entrancing. The music and aesthetic of the menus is so chill. I miss that sort of vibe from early 2000s game menus. A lot of them seemed to have that sort of vibe for some reason.

Royal Rumble on the Dreamcast is pretty ridiculous, but it still probably was one of the more faithful presentations of the RR match concept. Which I guess it ought to be, it's not like the game had much of anything else going for it. I never got a chance to play Royal Rumble, neither in arcades nor on Dreamcast. It seems like it's basically the Smackdown 1/2 engine but with a more proper Royal Rumble structure with stronger hardware, which means it's probably fun as hell. Maybe I'll play it someday.

Totally outrageous. Rajah.com is still around. I'm genuinely blown away that not only is it still around, but it still looks roughly the same that it did in like 2005-06. Wild.

Speaking of WrestleMania 19, it's not a great game but there is a pretty undeniable appeal in how damn stupid its single player and side modes are. Honestly its single player mode is effectively a 3D version of WWF Betrayal and I f*** with it so hard. Just beating the shit out of construction workers and other people for not really any good reason. It's a load of fun. Honestly I also think the gameplay is pretty fun. It's not a classic but I did enjoy it for what it was.
