With Owen I was on the computer (AOL Dial Up) and my friend was watching the news for some reason and he said, "hey...did you know Owen Hart died?". I cant really remember my reaction. I didnt know what to think.
With Benoit I saw a thread here about "Favorite Moments", I think. I went to the WWE.com and saw the picture. When they ruled it a "Double Murder-Suicide" near the end of the night I remember I just went to sleep hoping that Nancy did it. I mean I know its bad but I didnt want Chris Benoit to the murderer...

Owen: Watching the show, unfortunately. I continued watching, but man, it was hard to focus on anything at that point.
Benoit: As soon as they put it up on WWE.com, I managed to go there seconds after on my daily travels. Sadly, it all made sense - I remember reading a thread about Benoit not being at Vengeance. I just knew that something bad had happened.

Owen: I ordered Over the Edge 99 and was completely frozen when I heard JR's words.
Benoit: I was 10 minutes from leaving work and I said, "Eh, Ill just jump on the wrestlecrap forum before I bounce." Low about behold there was the sticky, Chris Benoit Found Dead. I ended up staying like another hour holding back tears and reading comments, trying to get any info I could. That empathy lasted until about Tuesday night though.

Owen:
I was watching the PPV on a scrambled feed, where I could get the audio perfectly, but the video was all messed up. This was back when you only had 50-something channels in all, and before AT&T, then later, Comcast, took over the Portland cable scene. I was flipping back and forth between playing video games and watching/listening the PPV, and when I came back from the game, I turned right into JR's announcement to the viewing audience that Owen had fell, then later I remember Road Dogg cutting a promo before his match and mentioning that Owen was in his prayers, and then, shortly after RD's match, JR announced that Owen had died.
Benoit:
I found out by going to wrestleview.com a few hours before Raw that day. After reading the headline, I went straight to wwe.com to get confirmation, then the WC boards. I know that explanation wasn't as long as the last one, but there was more to the moment of the former for me than the latter.

Owen - I was watching the show live at the time. Stayed up late (I live in the UK) and remember going into school the next day where even non wrestling fans had heard on the news.
Benoit - Woke up on the Tuesday morning to find four text messages on my phone to say Benoit was dead. Logged onto PWTorch when I got into work to find out the unfortunate full story.

I was watching Over the Edge. But since I got free PPV at the time, I taped it in one room and taped the Jesse Ventura story in another room and watched that. I saw the original incident happen but didn't realize how serious it really was. Then the news preview during the credits said "Wrestler dies during show" and I completely lost it.
With Benoit, I was going to a concert that night. I was literally on my way out the door and decided to check something random online. It was actually another message board where I found out (a non-wrestling board at that)

Owen - Heard about it the morning after the PPV. Dad told me as I was going to school that Owen Hart had died last night. I was shocked more than anything.
Eddie - I had just gotten back into wrestling after a 2-3 year hiatus (what a way to get back into it, eh?) One of my friends who posts here on the 'crap said something like "Oh man, today's a sad day for wrestling." I immediately go to WWE.com and see the horrible news. I teared up during the testimonials and the 10 bell salute.
Benoit - I just went to WWE.com casually to see what the preview for RAW would be and "CHRIS BENOIT FOUND DEAD" was right on front of the page. Murder-suicide aside, this one affected me the most, as Benoit was one of my favorites and it just came out of nowhere. It didn't help that it was only a couple of weeks after the McMahon worked death, so I was thinking it was a work, too. Then I saw official news reports on it. I was depressed/on the verge of crying throughout the entire night.
Also, I notice that almost everyone is calling Owen Hart and Eddie Guerrero by their first names and Chris Benoit by his last, myself included. Interesting observation.

Owen - At the time, I wasn't really paying much attention to the wrestling world. The only time I watched was when I was with my Dad every other weekend. I remember Dad telling me about it; I was shocked. Sadly, Daddy passed away a few weeks later, so I didn't find out any of the details until a few years later when I started actively watching again and did some net research.
Benoit - I had forgotten that Raw was starting an hour early. I tuned in at 8pm and saw the graphic. My jaw hit the floor and I just started sobbing and saying, "OMG...no....what happened?!?" and was thinking maybe Nancy and/or Daniel were really sick and he'd gone home to care for them and someone busted in and murdered them all or something. Then I called Diamond Dan's Hotline that night to try to get more details, and he said that it was believed that Benoit himself had done it... I just couldn't believe it. I still don't want to believe it, but I know the evidence says otherwise.

Owen's I was in AOL's Wrestling Chat where someone had been doing play by play. And then that was said.. much to the shock of the 48 people there. That night there was about 40 or so wrestling chat's going when there usually was just one or two.
Benoit. After a miserable weekend away from home with a girlfriend in a failing relationship, we get back to our place that Monday. Didn't have access to Internet and didn't watch any TV. Have a huge fight, and just go to the basement. Turned to USA it was like 10 minutes before RAW so I was watching SVU. Needless to say the look of shock on my face plus the emotional strain of the dead relationship knocked me on my ass.

Owen-Heard about it on the news not long after the PPV went off the air. As an 11 year old, having one of my favorite wrestlers die like that was a real trying thing for me.
Benoit-Heard about it here, actually. I forget who broke the news, but the second I saw it, I was devastated.

I wasn't a fan when Owen passed, but I remember my dad saying something about it at the time.
For both Eddie and Chris, I got text messages from wwe.com.

Owen - I was fairly young at the time (like 10) and my mom sat me down before Raw started and told me.
Benoit - I was at our theatre rehearsal (it was a late one as our show was about a week away) and my friend Zach texted me telling me that. I must have texted him about 50 times asking him to cut the crap out and stop lying to me. I then called home and my family comfirmed it.

Owen: On the radio the next morning on the way to school. Needless to say, not a great way to start your morning.
Eddie: That afternoon when I logged on to wwe.com. It was the only thing on the homepage.
Benoit: At 10:30 that night. I had taped Raw due to my karate class and planned on watching it when it was over. Well, I'm glad I was on yahoo, or I wouldn't have known until I watched the tape.

For Owen. I wasn't watching the ppv live, but I was keeping updated with results from another website and clicked and found out he passed away. That was a huge shock.
Eddie, I was waking up for work on a monday morning and the alarm clock radio went off and I was listening to the DJ's talking about a wrestler who died and they mentioned Eddie Guerrero and my GF (at the time) and I just stared at each other and our jaws hit the floor.
For Benoit I had to work from 2-11 on a monday and last checked the websites at around 1:15 and then went to work. I checked my phone at around 10 that night because I had a voicemail and it was my ex calling me and telling me in these exact words "Dude... I just heard on Raw, CHRIS BENOIT DIED?" This one was the most shocking one at the time. I mean I knew that there were problems at home, but at first assumption I thought that it was a murder or some kind of gas leak that killed everyone.
Overall I don't mind talking about Owen or Eddie or watching their matches, but I do not like to talk about Benoit because be was a hero of mine and I still have not come to terms with what he did. Don't know if I ever will.

Owen - I was at home when my brother told me his friend told him that "Something happened to Owen Hart." It was a couple hours later we heard he died.
Benoit - I was at work when my sports editor asked if I was upset about Benoit. I had no idea what he was talking about and simply joked with him about Benoit dying. My other editor, who knew I watched wrestling, asked if I heard about Benoit dying. I was like "WTF?"

Owen: I just got the internet about a month or two prior (back in the days of dial-up being common), and I checked WWF.com. My jaw was on the floor and I was at the point of tears.
Benoit: I was at my apartment in college, and was perusing my normal wrestling sites (here, [adult swim], and PWTorch), and I seen a piece that Benoit wasn't returning his calls from Chavo or anyone else. I knew then that something was up. Sure enough, when I got on the next day, there were rumors that Benoit died some way or another, but no substantiated reports. I was on when the Atlanta Journal-Constitution broke the news of his death. I was in absolute shock when I heard that.
