I know that everyone loves to hear their matches called by J.R. but the truth be told. Who is the better play by play man?
Joey did it all alone for a bunch of year and J.R. can not even get the names straight.
I always thought Joey was great because he never misses a move. But JR has been around so long that everyone gives him more credit than he deserves.
My vote is for Joey. What do you think?

Joey Styles because even now I watch ECW shows and he's spot on with his calling of matches.

Joey by far. I've never been a fan of Jim Ross, and he's downright embarrassing these days.

Joey knows his moves, JR knows how to repeat what McMahon tells him to say

JR, everyone on here shits on him but half of them just do it because its the smarky thing to do, still just about everyone would prefer to hear a big match called by good ol' JR even if he is slipping in his age, styles track record doesnt even compare to JR's, its all well and good that styles did play by play and color all on his own and nobodys done it before or since, but this topic is only asking about the play by play and in that field nobody comes close to solie or jr

Lets see he guy who called shows from a basement. So who knows how many takes he had. I'm going J.R.. Yes he isn't as good as he once was, but I cant picture Raw without him, and yes I know he was gone for a while, and it sucked hardcore.

A wrestling P-B-P man has a totally different job than a baseball or soccer P-B-P. A wrestling P-B-P man must must sell the moves and the story. Jim Ross is as much of a master at selling as Gordon Solie. Make no mistake, WWE needs Jim Ross and Jim Ross is the voice of RAW.

Jim Ross. Joey can call the moves, and I applaud him for it. But JR tells the story. He gives meaningless matches importance, gives them drama. It's the same reason I love Mike Tenay.

I also think that JR has slipped in his presentation over the years, but that just comes with age and having to repeat what's pumped into your headset. I still say JR is the top guy going, but he's nowhere close to what Solie was, and I think he'd gladly admit that, and has when asked.

JR.
I can't watch old school ECW because I stand "OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOD!" after every move.
I can take a guy who's had multiple brain traumas screwing up names/moves over a dude yelling "OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!" every 27 seconds.

I think it's JR, but he's starting to lose it. Joey has lost whatever he had because of having to do the WWE style instead of the ECW style, but if it was real Styles vs. modern JR, Styles owuld have it out.

This was a tough pick because while I've always prefered Joey because of his style. But JR can really make a big match that much bigger with his commentary. Plus his shown in the past that he can be a good straight man to a comedic color commentator.
I went with Joey, but JR should be shown some love too.

Gotta give it to JR for the same reasons alot of people have already mentioned. He's slipping, but he's still the only voice i can imagine leading RAW.

since the question was who's better at play-by-play, its joey styles at this point. if it were a question of who just feels right announcing on RAW, its jim ross. good ol' JR has slipped the last few years, and yes, he still sells a match better than anyone, but during the actual match it can get distracting to hear someone miscall half of what they see. he's also not helped by having lawler with him, who often doesnt have two words to say unless theres a diva appearance.
similar to keith jackson doing college football. people still thought of him as the only voice of the sport, but by the end he just couldnt call a game anymore. not saying JR is quite at that point, yet.
