I was putting together an interview with Team Vision (Chasyn Rance, Mister Saint Laurent, Larry Zybysko, and So Cal Val) when I ran across this. Great move, I say.

Masato Tanaka with a sword is freakin' scary. Masato Tanaka doesn't need a sword to be freakin' scary.

The sword makes him Scarier. The capitlization was intentional.

He has the looks of Andre the Giant, and the strength of Barry Windham. Not to mention he's a hero to a few armadillos, a kangaroo and a small herd of bison.

Well there's one AWA Champion who won't defend in Maine.

Well there's one AWA Champion who won't defend in Maine. You never know. Masato Tanaka is more likely to tour the US than Takao Omori was. Besides, NWH promoter Sonny Roselli works closely with the AWA "central office." If anyone could arrange a title defense, it's him.

We've gotten one AWA title defense since they joined together, and that was Corino. (Decent match, too.)
Plus, Sonny's barely running shows these days.
EDIT: To clarify, AWA/NA used to run every week in Old Town, ME with occasional other shows or weekend "tours" in more outreaching towns for fans there every month or so. They've since gone down to one or two shows a month in the outreaching towns and haven't done a show in their "Home arena" in Old Town since June, and aren't planning one until Pearl Harbor day.

Cool, I like Tanaka, although there won't be many title defenses in the US admittedly. He looks awesome with a sword, but his hair looks weird compared to when I last saw him (ONS 06). Totally irrelevant, but still.

Way to go, Tanaka!
Although, it makes me sad that we'll never see Mike Awesome vs. Tanaka for the AWA Title...

The only thing better than Masato Tanaka is Masato Tanaka with a sword. You know what's better than that? Masato Tanaka with TWO swords. And the AWA World Heavyweight Championship.

And you know what would be even greater?
Masato Tanaka vs Daisuke Sekimoto for the title. They had a great clash in the Fire Festival (my no.2 match of the year, after Nagata vs Tanahashi in April) that ended in a 30 minute draw. Now imagine with a title and without that time limit...

Good for Tanaka. I still think he would have been great in WWE, so naturally, they don't sign him.

Good for Tanaka. I still think he would have been great in WWE, so naturally, they don't sign him. I heard that they (READ: Paul Heyman) wanted to sign him for the new ECW, but he repeatedly turned them down. He said that he would lose his position of power in Z-1. Tanaka isn't the only giant, intimidating Japanese man to turn down the 'E - Morishima (well, through Misawa) did as well.

Even if his opponents had 2 swords, and sliced up Masato Tanaka, it wouldn't be any more effective than a chairshot
