From WrestlingObserver.com by way of Yahoo Sports:
Saturday night's UFC 79 is going against arguably the biggest regular season NFL game in years, as the New England Patriots go for a 16-0 season against the New York Giants.
Making it worse is the NFL's announcement that the game, originally scheduled on the NFL Network, has been moved to being the first simulcasted game on two networks, NBC and CBS, in our generation. Not only will it be the most important regular season NFL game in recent memory, but with two major markets involved, including New York, it will impact UFC, which has shown in the past that the NFL dilutes its numbers head-to-head.
This also won't help the IFL, which is running its live Grand Prix finals at the same time at the Mohegan Sun Casino.

That game is only broadcast on nfl network, so there may be some more viewers then one might think, not many though.

Anything going head-to-head with the NFL is a recipe for failure. Take into account it's one of the biggest games in years, features the larges market in the U.S., and is being broadcasted on not 1 but 2 of the U.S.' "big 4" networks, and UFC is gonna get slaughtered in the ratings.

it's only "big" because both new york and new england will watch EDIT: Whoops read the post wrong! And it's also considered a "big" game because New England is doing something that has only been done, oh I don't know, once before (and that was 25 years ago.) Football fans around the U.S. will watch, even if just to hope that the Pats lose. With that said, UFC will still bring in good ratings - although, maybe not as good as they hoped.

All the games you mentioned will be forgotten about by the time the draft happens. Regardless of whether the Pats win or lose this game, it will be discussed for years. It's been over 20 years and people still talk about Miami ruining the Bears 85 season.

I work at a bar... and we are gearing up for a HUGE night
People will hit up the sports bars... simply because even though the game is on free TV....
UFC is on PPV... and people wont wanna get torn between the two... so they go the bar and have the bar pay for UFC and watch BOTH.
also here in Texas.... Texas A&M is playing thier bowl game that night.
