it was a good film. Just as good as Empire strikes back, or any other star wars film.

No no no.
Padme and Anakin are terrible in it. A 14 year old meeting a nine year old or whatever he is does not seem like a good foundation for a relationship.
Like other people have said, it has its flashes of greatness, but the FUNDAMENTAL plot point of the film is pretty damn bad.

Though he's just nine, and she's fourteen! Man Werid Al Rocks.

I think the real problem is that he had about 1 and a half films' worth of material stretched out into 3 films.
Just because there were three original SW films doesn't mean there had to be 3 prequels.
So we end up with endless C-Span stuff with the senate and Palpatine and nothing happening for long stretches.

I thought Ep1 was okay and I enjoyed Ep 2.
BUT
EP3 was the best theater experience I would say I had for a long time.
That movie was sweet. Everybody went nuts in the theater when the Emperor showed his true colors.
When he flipped out and killed two Jedi some guy behind me yelled "OH ****!"
The reason I really like that scene so much is because of the animalistic nature that comes from the Emperor in the scene. Its almost like hes not even human. He hissed at him. I thought that was so trippy.

Now, what I truly DON'T understand, is the love for Episode III.
Where is it coming from?
It had some decent parts and was worth seeing for those parts, but the bad far outweighed the good IMO.

Yes. It started the story all over again. Qui Gonn was pretty friggin' cool. Darth Maul was freakin' awesome.
Despite Jar Jar, the pod racing thing, and the annoying ass Anikin character, you've got to begin somewhere.
And for the record, Yoda "puppet" is far cooler than Yoda "CGI" in my opinion. Frank Oz had to work hard to get emotion out of that little m-fer.
Just my opinion.

I used to dislike it, until I watched it last week and thought it was great. I think it grows on you over time. It also helps that the other prequals were awesome.

I loved it when it first came out too (like most others in the collective "It's a new Star Wars movie!" vein). Watching it now, it has its flaws but there are moments of greatness (Qui-Gon Jinn character, Darth Maul) sadly, neither Qui-Gon or Darth were characters in eps. II or III. Qui-Gon's voice was in Attack of the Clones! *Anakin kills the Tusken Raider Camp* Qui-Gon: "Anakin! Anakin! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Eh. I prefer the Prequel trilogy, and while it's the weakest of the three, I still rate it higher than, say Return of the Jedi.

it had its moments, and some awesome performances, but Lucas really missed out on why people like Star Wars.

Because we were all so distracted by Hayden Christiansen's imitation of cardboard to notice it.
And I thought of one thing I liked from TPM that wasn't Qui Gonn-related. It's the way everyone deals with Palpatine.
"Oh NOES! We need help! Our good friend Senator Palpatine will help us!"
And you're watching going "NOOO! He's mega-evil! Run!"
It's the same experience you get from watching the original Dracula now. "Hey, our new friend from the East. Count Dracula, won't you join us?"
You: HE'S THE VAMPIRE, IDIOT! DON'T YOU KNOW ANYTHING?
After a lifetime of their villainy, it's good fun to see people so damned oblivious.

Other than Ian McDiarmid and Darth Maul, there is little in this movie to enjoy.
I saw a fan-edit of Episode I called "Balance Of The Force" which recuts scenes from Episode I and adds new dialogue and it was far superior and more coherant.

I've recently realised that I actually prefer the prequals to the extremely dated original trilogy.
I watched Episode 3 for the second the other day and actually realised how awesome it was. The whole thing is so tragic, I found myself shedding a tear towards the end.

The problem with the Prequels is that they EXPLAINED the back story to the originals. It's as simple as that really. When you are writing a story it's easy to introduce an evil character like Darth Vader and throw out a few hints about his origin and leave it at that. It makes the character mysterious. The same is said for Obi-Wan, Yoda, and The Emperor. To actually show how it played out takes away from that mystery. Saying that there used to be a Republic but it was overthrown and transformed into an Empire is cool. But how could such a thing really go down in a short period of time (and it would have to be short or guys like Obi-Wan would have to of been ancient)? It's not the easiest thing to do.
