Cyndi Lauper took on A-Ha, AND FAILED! AS SHE WAS THROWN TO THE GROUND! GRUNGE TRIED TO DESTROY THE A-HA... ------------------------------------------------------ Now, can Musical Youth ride their one and only hit... and entry... on to round 2? Or can Peter Gabriel get two songs in? 3 votes are needed to pass until I see how quickly matches are going to move today. Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie"Pass the Dutchie" was a song recorded in by the British group Musical Youth from the album "The Youth of Today" (1982). It was a major hit, holding the number one position on the UK singles charts for three weeks in September 1982. Vs. Peter Gabriel - Shock The Monkey"Shock the Monkey" is a 1982 song by Peter Gabriel. It was released as a single and peaked at #29 in the U.S. charts. It was also included on Gabriel's fourth self-titled album, issued in the U.S. as Security. As well as its "relentlessly repeated hook" that "sounded nothing like anything else on the radio at the time",[1] the track is known for its popular and somewhat disturbing music video featuring Gabriel in white face paint and a frightened-looking macaque.

Shock the Monkey, but again this is a battle of 2 songs in which neither of them blow me away.

Shock the Monkey, but again this is a battle of 2 songs in which neither of them blow me away. With 256 songs you'll get some tough battles (Sledgehammer vs. Every Breathe You Take, I think it was) on the good side of the coin, some tough battles on the "eh" side of the coin, and some lopsided battles. I think starting in round 2 almost every match is going to be tough for people to decide though.

Musical Youth has to be going home now. I wonder how they will cope with this loss once they are home... ---------------------------------------------- This might be a tough battle here. Both of these artists are facing win or your out of the tournament situations. Tina Turner - What's Love Got to Do with It?"What's Love Got to Do With It" was the second single released from Tina Turner's breakthrough solo debut album, Private Dancer. The song is widely credited for the huge success of the album itself. The song's lyrics and theme express how love is usually not a motive for someone to find a relationship. "What's Love Got to Do With It" is arguably Tina Turner's most popular and successful single, becoming her first number-one hit in United States and establishing Tina Turner as a mainstream Pop and Rock artist. In 1993, the song's name was used as the title for What's Love Got to Do With It?, a biographical film about Turner's life leading up to the actual release of the song. The music video was directed by Mark Robinson. It is ranked #309 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of "the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".It also ranked #38 on Songs of the Century. The song is considered as one of Turner's best songs ever. Vs. Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart"Owner of a Lonely Heart" is a song by the progressive rock band Yes. It is the opening track of their 1983 album 90125. Written primarily by Trevor Rabin (who was new to the band at the time), the song reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 — to this date Yes's biggest chart success by far. Since then, it has seen many releases; the original release was b-sided with Our Song, while others were b-sided with e.g. Leave It, Make It Easy, and remixes of this song

Can "Owner of a Lonley Heart" do it? YES IT CAN! ------------------------------------------------------------- Now we have Kash's second and final nomination. He may have been joking, but I counted it. His first one moved on, will this one? It will have stiff competition when two of the biggest stars in music history come together... Jan Hammer - Miami Vice ThemeThe song Miami Vice Theme was created and performed by Jan Hammer as the theme to the television series Miami Vice. It was first heard by the public in September 1984 and released as a single in 1985, peaking at the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. It is the last instrumental to have topped the chart. In 1986, it won Grammy Awards for "Best Instrumental Composition" and "Best Pop Instrumental Performance." This song, along with Glenn Frey's number-two hit "You Belong to the City," put the Miami Vice soundtrack on the top of the U.S. album chart for eleven weeks in 1985, making it the most successful TV soundtrack of all time until 2006 when Disney Channel's High School Musical beat its record. Vs. Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney - The Girl Is Mine"The Girl Is Mine" is a hit duet by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney in 1982. Fully credited as composed by Michael Jackson and released as the first single from Jackson's biggest selling album, Thriller, the song was about two men fighting over the love of one woman, each claiming that he can love the woman better than the other. It leads into a spoken debate near the end of the song by the two singers with Jackson giving his now famous line: "Paul, I think I told you - I'm a lover, not a fighter." The song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Soul Singles Chart in the winter of 1982-83 before Jackson's second single from Thriller ("Billie Jean") took over its spot the next month. On the Adult Contemporary chart, it was the first Michael Jackson single to reach #1; he would not top the A/C chart again until "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" in 1987.
