Here's a question for everyone. What would you do if somehow you moved across the ocean and were then living in the land of the other sport? Would you give the other sport a chance and try to embrace the love of your new land, or would you just close up and not participate.
I for one would still try to keep up with American football as much as possible, but try to get into soccer and get to some games and have something to talk about with my new neighbors. I for one would hate to not have a live sporting event to go to from time to time or sports to argue about at work, so I'd give it a go.

I am absolutely sure that if an open-minded American football fan were to attend a pro soccer match live in Europe, as I did, they would quickly become a lifelong fan. Well, I think they would. They'd probably have to avoid the drunken brawls first.

As a former rugby player (not saying I was anywhere near professional level, but I was decent at it) I tried to get into American football but just couldn't. There is too much stopping and starting for my liking. I also have a problem with the flagship game being more about the half-time show and the adverts than the actual game itself. That's my biggest criticism of American football. Football doesn't have the stop/start style and when the game does have to stop, there is no cutting to adverts (except for the interval).

The only thing I have against the "It's about the half-time show and commercials" arguement is that it's more of a statement of American consumerism then it is a the game itself.
MiLO, for your question, I would try to get into soccer. I have nothing against any sport as it is, my only problem is a lack of someone to cheer for. I'll be honest, ANY sport is boring as hell to me when I don't have anyone to pull for. It's why I don't care about the playoffs or Superbowl if the Panthers aren't involved, or the World Series if the Braves aren't involved.

I was in the US last year when the superbowl was on. The next day on ESPN they had a 30 minute review show. It consisted of 20 minutes of talking about the ads, 5 minutes of talking about Prince's performance and about 30 seconds of discussion about the game. If it was another channel it wouldn't bother me, but it was ESPN.

The game was still played, and it was what it was with or without the commercials. ESPN is dumb most of the time anyways. Believe me, that kind of crap bothers me too.
