I don't know who people could think that No Country for Old Men is a better film then There Will be Blood. TWBB has more depth, is a far better character story and gets it's point across in a far less heavy handed way. I liked NCfOM, I think it's the Coen's best film since Big Lebowski but I don't think it's all that good. Blood on the other hand it's just a fasinating study of man and the questions of his motivations and methods that pays off in the end. And while I won't say it's not as good as movies of the last few years, it was still pretty enjoyable. NCFOM's ending was just such a piss away, that I hope they do lose. If Juno wins, then I'm going to boycott movies starting in September. Oh grow up. What ending would you rather have? Bardem meeting his just desserts? Jones going badass on him? Brolin pulling a Rambo?

This is what will happen, mark my words:
The votes for No Country and There Will Be Blood will cancel eachother out.
That leave Michael Clayton, which has no chance of winning, Atonement, which has the globe but not the academy's interest and Juno.
Juno will win because the other two will split the votes.

A good theory, BUT...NCFOM won the DGA prize, which has won Best Director in the last few years. The awards are in NO COUNTRY's favor. Of course, with DEPARTED/Scorsese winning last year....I could see JUNO winning Best Picture, and Coens win Best Director. Yet another split-ticket.

The only Best Pic Nom I've seen is Juno. Which was okay. Of the two, There Will Be Blood looks more interesting from the previews. Although the title reminds me of Saw II's tagline. I'll give the vote to TWBB anyway.

I'm expecting There Will Be Blood for best picture. It just has everything going for it. I can't ponder up a better movie I've seen this year.
No Country was very good, but in a way just seemed almost like something we've seen many times before. Bardem and Brolin have outstanding performances, and Jones was good as always (but his best work of the year was in Valley), but at the end overall was just a very well-done chase movie. But none of that will be stopping it from also taking the awards for Best Cinematography, Adapted Screenplay and the obvious supporting actor.
Michael Clayton though can't be denied, either.

I love flicks by both the Coens (Lebowski, Fargo, Lady Killers... ok just too many to name) and Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia, etc)
But, to be honest out of these two the only one I've seen is No Country for Old Men... and it was REALLY good.

By the way, I'm not going to get too upset regardless of who wins best picture.
BUT, if the bad guy from "No Country for Old Men" doesn't win best supporting actor...
... we f***ing RIOT!!!
Disagree? Well nobody that saw No Country for Old Men would!!!

Disagree? Well nobody that saw No Country for Old Men would!!! For the longest time from the commercials, for some reason I thought that was Robert Downey Jr. Anyway, No Country, Blood, and Juno are all deserving. I feel like I could accept any of those as winner. Crash, however, should of lost to Brokeback. Yes, I'm still resentful.

But I do own Crash on Blu Ray (one of only 7 movies to hold that honor!) So it's safe to say I'm not upset about that one.
