A major reason anyone gets in is because of their influence. Al hasn't really influenced a lot of parodists really. he's the most famous one out there today and has been for some time. Madonna on the other hand, well her career speaks for itself. I'm not saying she's the reason we have Mariah Carey, but her career and infuence is undeniable. I mostly agree with what you've been saying. Only thing is, I was watching the A&E Biography of Al one day. They mentioned that he's the main "parody" guy out there, and he responded, saying basically: "There are a bunch of other parody guys out there, but unfortunately a lot of record labels don't want to sign them. A lot are talented, but the companies don't want to take the chance." That's not verbatim what he said, but I think that's true. Hell, when he was initially signed at a label, they kicked him off the label a short while later, saying "You're a two bit parody guy who'll never last." Funny part is, the band he parodied (The Knack) was on the same label and helped him get hired cause they loved his parody. The KNack didn't last too much longer either. Well I should rephrase that. He has influenced a lot of parodists, but like you said, labels don't sign them. If they did, he would get in the HOF no doubt |

Kiss isn't a joke? They take that crap they do seriously? Kiss deserves to be in, you can't deny their influence. Weird Al is a joke musician with joke songs. They have influence sure, but most of their influence isn't tied around their music. Their influence is in what they ripped off from Alice Cooper. |

The man is a genius.
He consistantly makes me laugh.
He's done so for two friggin' decades.
Entertaining so many in an industry that's become tired and played out.
He deserves this more than some but not more than others.
If he gets a chance, let the man in.
The other deserving artists will get in eventually.
Or they can beat the crap out of Madonna and take hers.
