I don't get all the Hush hate. yeah the villain swerve was kinda lame and if it really was Jason Todd it woulda been much better (way better than when they actually DID bring him back... eesh), but as far as the story goes, I thought it was great. it actually made me care about The Riddler for the first time ever. The lame payoff is really the major problem, and one that was intended to be fixed; another story with Loeb/Lee was in the works to follow up as a Hush part 2, but schedules got in the way and it never happened. Supposedly, questions a lot of people had were to be fully cleared up in this story.

Most of my faves have already been mentioned but: Astro City - honestly, the entire series is pretty damn phenomenal. Daredevil - Born Again X-Men - Dark Phoenix Saga Yeah, that Spider-Man clone saga was great! Hell of a lot better than what we're getting right now. I just LOVE my heroes to make deals with the devil.

The Death and Return of Superman.
I picked up Superman #75 thinking, "Sweet! I'm gonna see Superman die!" And when it finally happened, I'd completely made an about-face thinking, "No! You can't kill him!" I picked up almost every issue of Funeral for a Friend and Reign of the Superman, waiting on pins and needles for the Man of Steel to finally make his triumphant return. And when he finally did, it was as satisfying a conclusion as I've ever seen.

I cannot recommend the Sinestro Corps War enough. It is just too damn awesome. Even non-DC fans need to read it!
It was my favorite arc of 2007 BAR NONE. The fact that I am a HUGE Lantern fan(favorite hero) made it an awesome arc for me.

Long Halloween & Dark Victory are awesome
Also "Books Of Doom" were great too, it gave deep insight into Doom's origin

52.
Had me hooked from page one, and I stayed engrossed right up until the last page. Strongest reccomendation to check this out. I've also really loved Garth Ennis' Punisher run.

Green Lantern - Emerald Twilight. Hal's descent into madness, and desire to make things right by any means necessary was probably the most emotionally involved I've ever gotten in a superhero comic. I hated the cop-out in Green Lantern- Rebirth, about Parallax actually being an alien parasite.

I started my comics fandom with Hal Jordan and I liked how they made something truly impact him and turn him down a path of wrathful greif. That and Kyle Rayner is a truly great character that I really got invested in. The cop out end made all those years and all of those well crafted events like one of those Dallas "it was just a dream" endings.

I agree with this. avoid Countdown like the plague, though. and on the subject of bringing Hal back, see I liked that decision, and when looking at it objectively there really was no other way to do it than for Parallax to have been something else. I mean would YOU trust Hal Jordan again if he actually did those things himself? the only thing is, it was also the beginning of an increasingly disturbing pattern of writers trying to bring back "their" comics and treating everything that came out since the end of the Silver Age like it was garbage and going out of their way to shit on it. I mean the way Hal went out was some pretty bad character derailment IMO and bringing him back and setting things right was pretty much imperative, and good on them to NOT shit on Kyle Rayner and stuff him in a fridge or anything, because after Rebirth, the whole "silver age revival" thing started getting really annoying. for instance, there was NO GOOD REASON to bring back Barry Allen other than that the writers liked him. I'm hoping that they don't do something stupid to Wally just because Barry's back, Wally's a better character anyway. the whole thing just seems forced to me. plus Geoff Johns and Alex Ross are hampering their best title (JSA) by adding on more and more increasingly useless and pointless new versions of characters that nobody else ever gave a shit about, at the expense of the original team. I mean Kingdom Come was a great story, but that doesn't mean you have to force it into continuity. and don't even get me started about what Joe Quesada did to Spider-man, and the attitude he's taken to everyone but him hating it. [/end rant]

Wait... IT WAS! Just redeemed by the fact that Marz can write the hell out of Kyle Rayner AND anything in space.

I've heard good things about it from my local shop owner....... the problem with countdown is that it was supposed to be build up for final crisis... except after the end of countdown and from what we've seen with dc universe 0 it meant that countdown had very little reason to be published. basically it was just a gigantic waste of time.

I'll say this for it - it's infinitely superior to Hush Returns, in which for some reason Prometheus, who once almost beat the whole JLA single-handedly, for some reason is running scared from a bandaged dude with a gun. HUH?
