Seems like a hard worker, nice enough guy, and he's doing his job. He's playing the "babyface" commentator, outraged by heel tactics and a lack of fairplay. He's okay. He just plays a lovehead on TV. Exactly, with Smackdown having such a large fanbase of little kids I'd imagine WWE asks him to really hammer home the good guy/bad guy stuff. They have him ramble on about Mysterio because they want all the little 5 year old kids watching to think Rey's the greatest thing ever. "Rey Mysterio is the greatest high flyer in the history of our business" is WWE's way of saying "buy a Rey mask little kid, you know you want to". And they also seem to want him to play the dorky fanboy character as it allows them to do interactions with him and the heel announcers, or comedy sketches where even the babyfaces make fun of him. He seems like a pretty level headed guy irl, or whenever he did that around the ring show with JBL.

Meh he does his job even if he does give the verbal BJ to all faces. That's his job.

Cause he's really not that bad of a commentator. That's probably fair. He's certainly better than some other attempts they have tried or waiting in the wings. Todd Grisham anyone? If he says 'Now it's time for the Maaaaain Event' again I may go insane.

Cole is trying to keep some sort of face announcer/heel colour commentator dynamic, and we're bitching...
JR and King had been performing verbal fellatio to Cena during his 2 years long reign of terror, and we were bitching...
So, what do they have to do exactly?
Monsoon/Heenan, Vince/Ventura and any other combination of them, were keeping it VERY kayfabed, and the result was hilarious.
Cole may not be at the their level, but I'd rather have clear roles than the "hooray for everybody" attitude WWE had been pushing for a while.

As we know, JR and Joey Styles call it right down the middle.
Remember the time Shelton was facing Cena in a Beat the Clock Match? Cena had Shelton up for an F-U and Shelton held onto the ropes to avoid being F-Ued as the clock ticked off. Styles starts screaming abot how Shelton just screwed Cena out of the best time on purpose. What, was Shelton just supposed to let himself be F-Ued and lose because Cena is a nice guy? Styles would have never said something that stupid in ECW. Point being, I think a lot of what Cole says is stuff he HAS to say.

First of all, this might possibly be the greatest sig in the history of our sport.
But didn't Gorilla Moonsoon commentate like this when he was at the booth? Really? Michael Cole does an exceptional job, and he does much better than we give him credit for.

I don't think some people realise how hard announcing a wrestling show is, and all the things you have to do while the match is going on. He still has a job because he is bloody good at it.

Because he's decent at what he does and dare I say, he might just be the best play by play man in the WWE right now. JR is one of the all-time greats but he's getting old. He makes several mistakes and I sometimes get the impression that JR is phoning it in these days. Joey Styles is just awful IMO. So that just leaves Cole.

Oh please like you could do any better . I bet Michael Cole wonders how you still have a job and nitpicks about every little thing you do (assuming you are even able to get a job.) So...THAT was an appropriate response. First of all, I nitpicked about one thing, not "every little thing" the man has done in his life. Second, I never said I could do better. I'd probably be a lousy commentator. You can't just pretend I said something and then try to argue that point. Since you obviously didn't take the time to actually READ what I wrote, and just gave us the ol' generic, snarky reply that you assume just about covers it, nowhere in my post did I question the man's skills as a color commentator. That is not what this is about; this is kayfabe, buddy. This is about his blatant over-selling of the concept of faces and heels, to the point that, in cases like this, it damages his credibility as a wrestling commentator. And, just between you and me, if you plan to stick around this forum, acting like a jackass isn't the way to do it. So criticising your post is being a jackass? Complaining about someone when said person has no way to defend themselves isn't being a jackass?

He's decent. Not Solie or Ross in his prime by any stretch, but he gets unfairly crapped on here. He does a perfectly passable job in relation to the other guys they've got.

He stated his opinion on Michael Cole. This is not about whether or not he could do any better, he just stated that he thinks he is a horrible commentator. By your logic we can never say anything negative about anyone famous ever because they're not here to defend themselves.

People are so mean about the commentators...I don't think there are any that would make them happy.

Michael Cole still has a job because he's a reliable employee and is worth much more to the company than just being an announcer (doesn't he run their website?).
The facts are, he's going out there and being told what to say. That's his job. Yeah, he might be OTT, but that's just what he's been instructed to do.

Cole doesn't bother nearly as much as he used too. He's improved alot over the years.

It's funny, but Cole's got an AMAZING resume from his days in the Communication field: he's covered the Branch-Davidian standoff in Waco, Texas; ethnic fighting in Sarajevo; the Oklahoma City Bombing; and several Presidential elections.

Cole doesn't bother nearly as much as he used too. He's improved alot over the years. That's definatly true. He used to annoy the hell out of me whenever he spoke, but now I have no problem with him. He goes alittle over the top now and then but usually does a good job. Unfortunatly he needs a good colour man to work with, and I question whether he'll get it in his new partner
