'quake,
we hardly knew ye.
although he was going through quite the ordeal in his final month, he always tried to keep us updated and was particularly open about his battle with cancer (especially for a public personality).
i honestly dreaded the day that i'd wake up and read this news, but worried that it was coming in the past month or two. but today, now that it's happened, it still doesn't seem real.
to think of the mean character he played for most of his time on tv, compared to the genuine, sincerely kind man that he was in real life (and that all of us crappers, because of his willingness to let us into his life, even if for just a bit, got to know to a degree)... it's just a shame.
john put his mean face back on for one more go-round, however, fighting the match of his life. but it's not whether one wins or loses in such battles, rather, how he fights.
and mr. tenta fought with courage, strength, and was a great friend, to at least some small degree, to all of us here at the crap, and to all of the people who enjoyed at least some of his work in the ring. so, even though we mourn his passing here, we cannot help but smile, as while cancer was perhaps his greatest foe, far surpassing the challenges of hulk hogan, the legion of doom and money inc, john tenta waged his greatest and most couragously fought battle.
even though he lost the war to cancer, fate, time, whatever you want to call it (as so many people unfortunately do)... he proved in the course of the battle, however, that it is possible to fight, and to persevere even in the face of great adversity, even when the odds are far against a person... and for that, and so much else, we thank him.
r.i.p, 'quake.

I had a bad feeling this would happen, but I'm still in a state of shock.
Thanks, John, for e-mailing me back and forth to talk about college football. Those were some of the best times I've ever had online. I'll never forget you for that, and I truly appreciate it. Also, it was nice to hear that you rooted for UTEP in their last bowl game.
Instead of shedding tears, I'm going to remember you the only way I know how: by replaying the image of you crushing Damian over and over in my head.
As far as I'm concerned, you're THEBIGGESTLEGENDSTAREVERINTHIS...GAH!
RIP, old friend.

This is a sad day in the world of wrestling. John was an awesome performer and and even better man. He will be sorely missed.
R.I.P. John.

so long big guy, you'll be missed as an John memory of sorts, long ago I saw a sumo match between him and Yoko, before the match took place "the fink" came out to annouce what was going on, during this he stated "as youcan see the ropes have been removed from the ring..." at that moment someone in the croud yell out "NO ****!" Fink suddenly broke out laughing and signed "cut" and started over, it's one of my fondest wrestleing moments the match went on and John "Earthquake" Tenta won, it was a great night to be sure *watches Earthquake Vs Tugboat match*

I just read about this and it wasn't something I wanted to see. John ment a lot of things to everyone he touched. The world lost a great man. We lost a great friend. I don't know were to begin because I have so much I want to say.
I grow up watching John as Earthquake when I was started becoming a Wrestling fan. Guys like Him, Piper, Hogan, and ext were the main guys. He did everything to entertain us fans in and out of the ring. Being about to post with John was an honor. Because there are very few Wrestlers or former Wrestlers who take the time to post with fellow wrestling fans. I wish there was more guys like him who wants to spend time with his fans. The internet does a lot of things. One of the best things for me as been to beable to comuicate with a wrestling Legend.
Wrestlecrap will never be the same without John. I will miss his post and his thought about different topics. He will be missed greatly be me and I'm sure everyone here. John you fought as had as you could. Some day we will find away to beat this horrible disease.
John Earthquake Tenta R.I.P big man. You maybe gone but you will never be forgotten. Say hello to the other heros in the sky.
Thank you for all the memorys.

*shakes his head* You know it's damn depressing to be 32 and see people you idolized and looked up to growing up to be dying so young. I'm starting to get the feeling being a wrestlng fan is probably the worst thing to be lately because they aren't living anywhere near long enough after retirement to enjoy things and some of them never make it to retirement.
I never knew Earthquake aside from the TV and sometimes didn't even know I was watching him (I didn't know he was Golga until I found this place but still rooted for him), but he was a great performer and quite athletic for his size. I know on YouTube there is a video of him vs tugboat which is one of my favorites because he pulled off an impressive dropkick.
So McMahon think Earthquake deserves to be in the HOF now?

If I recall Earthquake (whome I believe was given the nickname little mountain in sumo) was 24-0 coming into the challenge. I would love to see some of his sumo stuff, but where would anyone go to find it. I wonder if anywhere in the vast video cam world of wrestling if anyone has that moment on video, I can see that happening to the fink

John was someone who, despite being very sick, still wanted to give to the fans. No matter what, he tried his best to keep us updated, and to share his stories of the road. For that, I am forever grateful as a fan and a person. John was one of the good guys, and while I didn't get to know him as well as some people here, or as well as I wanted to, but I will really miss him and I feel that he was one of those people that you are truly blessed for knowing.
R.I.P. John, you beat the odds for longer than the doctors expected, and now you finally get to rest and don't have to go through anymore pain. You've earned it.
