Does The rock owe wwe anything?
Like it or not, they made his current status possible. If not for them he'd be dirt poor and/or doing whatever failed footballers did.
I don't mind him that he left. But,alledgedly, part of why he doesn't want to return in anyway (match, angle, brief appareance) is because showbiz people keep telling him not to be assoiciated with wrestling anymore (partly the Benoit thing) because it will damage his career. That's quite a snobby attitude. Austin has moved on as well, but he doesn't seem to look down on wrestling.

Not a fan of the man's acting but I defend his right to retire from an industry he helped to keep going in the 90's. Him and Austin WERE wrestling for that time and for that, he should be able to do whatever he chooses.
Without cheapsauce comments from less talented actor / wrestlers.

Um, Cena wishes Rock would appear in wrestling more often. Don't we all?

How much more does the Rock need to give honestly? Until he's crippled in a wheelchair like Dynamite Kid? He did his part, had a helluva run in WWE from 98-01. I don't hate Cena or anything but who's he to say that Rock doesn't love wrestling? Exactly. He did his part and had some fantastic and memorable matches and segments. He moved on and people should respect that. People make it out as though he doesn't love wrestling anymore, but maybe he's trying to move on and let the newer guys have their oppertunity instead of it being about 'The Rock' all the time. The fanbase has great admiration for him, that's true. But if they did have great admiration for him, they should respect and admire what he gave to them instead of expecting him to come back every 5 minutes.

Certainly he got over with the help of WWE, but still where exactly does it say that he must appear at a WWE show at Vince's beckon call? He did his part and now wants to move on, he's not under any lifetime appearance contract or anything. If I recall it was WWE who let his contract run out in 05 without trying to sign a new deal.

cena says he gets why the rock doesnt want to be associated with wrestling, then why is he pissed? god forbid someone moves on to something different in life. maybe everyone who agrees with cena should constantly go back and thank the boss of their first job, and maybe work a couple of shifts as well, as a further thank you.
why does the rock have to 'give back' anything? he was paid to perform a service, he performed the service to the extent of the contract. thats where it ends. no one 'owes' anyone anything.

The "admiration" of a fanbase that chews wrestlers up, spits them out, and laughs at them when they're too old and washed up to cut the mustard anymore? Sorry, but Rock was right, you have to think of your career (and your health) first and quit with the "noble sacrifice" crap. Look where all those realistic chairshots got Benoit. How is that? I mean, Rock has a life too, and it doesn't say anywhere that he has a lifetime contract with WWE and must wrestle till he drops dead. He gave more than enough to WWE in the years he spent there. But it seems for some people that's apparently not enough as they want him to do more as he apparently has some type of duty to them. So then I guess it's okay that the Rock "took his ball and went home" and now no one is allowed to voice any sort of opinion on that at all?

Please. Look at the treatment Mick Foley gets on this and other boards for his appearances. He gave his body and he will die at a young age due to this business. I remember the last time he came out on Raw, I barely heard a peep in the audience. The Rock gave Vince McMahon and gave us great entertainment throughout his contract. The contract ended. He no longer works for the WWE. Dwayne Johnson went above and beyond for the company in the time he was there. He is one of the main reasons why you no longer see McMahon owned Titan Sports Inc at the end of Raw. You now see publically owned World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.

So wrestlers are supposed to be vassals to McMahon and never have any success beyond wrestling? Considering the guy was instrumental in one of WWE's most successful periods, you'd think he'd get a better reception than just being treated as "uppity" because he considers himself too old for a career that involves significant physical risks.

I miss seeing The Rock on Monday nights just about as much as anyone, but you've gotta respect the man's decision to take care of himself and his family. I honestly wouldn't want to see The Rock doing what Ric Flair is doing today.

It's possible to become burned out on anything. Even on something you love and have loved for many years.
That's what makes you human.

Cena has the ball now.

I miss the Rock but I do not believe he deserves to be chided for possibly one of the best decisions of his life.
Also, who's to say that he couldn't come back for a few matches down the road? He's still young. Basically, I feel the WWE has an open-door policy when it comes to the Rock. They shouldn't push him though.

You may see it as "took his ball and went home", but I don't. I'd use Austin in that case as he would walk out whenever a booking decision didn't go his way. Rock is his own man, he can do as he pleases he's under no obligation to anyone right now when his contract expired in 2005. That's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but I disagree.
