I think we would have been feeling this last year had we been able to have the limo explosion or the proper ending to the bastard son storyline. Unfortuneately WWE had been so unlucky. Now though they seem to be doing all they can to get people to really hate their characters, which will in turn create well liked faces. I mean they seemed to be satisfied with Coach as the boss of Raw for so long, who was a moderately good heel, but they seem to be trying to make Regal hugely hated, and the same with Vickie, and it seems to be working. And even in the undercard, there is just more talent to fill out a show now. The tag division looks better, and we have a feud in HBK/Batista/Jericho that is tremendous, and hasn't even needed a title to be made interesting. It's got there through clever story telling. Cena is massively important to the company, and even he isn't appearing that often, so when he and Jeff get back full time it's going to get even better. Well then, I'll pretty much just agree with this.

I think the past couple of years has been the best period of the WWE. The roster is loaded with awesome talents and you dont have crap like Mideon or Gangrele anymore to stink up the card almost everyone on the roster is a talent.
You also have a great generation of main eventers right now and the old guys are meshing quite well with the new ones.

Also, even though I'm a massive fan of Cena and an advocate of his reign, I feel they could have bee more creative in the way they booked it. For so long it was a different opponent every month - or maybe one rematch thrown in - and you didn't really need to tune in to see what else would happen because you knew. A number one contender would win a match post PPV/challenger demands rematch, then they'd pair up with a face/heel respectively in a tag match, then challenger would try to cost Cena a match/attack him from behind, and then there would be some form of heated debate.
That's fine when the feud is an interesting and unique concept. Cena/HHH at WM22 was excellent because it played on so many different levels, but if you do rent-a-feuds every month with no real ultimate goal or larger overunning story, why would people have the motivation to tune in? I just think there could have been a long Cena reign, just more creatively told. I don't know how exactly, but then, I'm not a member of creative.
Now though, it seems the big story will be Regal and being the most 'powerful entity', and also Vickie and Edge ruling Smackdown. Once the Regal storyline especially gets going, it's going to be interesting to see what else he does. Does he form a stable to protect him? Does he book himself in easy matches? Who's his main opposition? There is a longer story that seems will have time and care taken over it to develop, and that's going to make people want to watch more than a 3/4/5 week feud that will be forgotten about soon.
There are still thrown together feuds, such as JBL and Cena this month. At least now though, it's not the focal point of the show. Raw isn't relying on a thrown together feud to see them through. It also helps that the participants in the thrown together feuds are very good at getting crowd reaction, so it makes it seem as if the show is more exciting. This kind of feuds are important anyway, to get the big stars on PPV, and not every feud can be part of a greater story, but at least now we have some greater stories to track.

My favourite year since the attitude era was 2004, but this year is looking to overtake it.

It's not as difficult to watch as it was in 2006 and as dull as it was as 2007 so far.
I'm not gonna declare "BEST ERA IN YEARS!!!!!!" yet, because most of the stories are fairly new.

I wouldn't say best period for years myself
It's been mediocre/average since 03, the past coupe of weeks have been fun and enjoyable but up till then I'd say no

The first half of 2006 was the best since 02. And better then now. Started off with Edge winning the title...

A lot of people seem to be giving this past year or so a lot of props, but I just don't see it. There have been some high points, but there's been a crap ton of awful stuff, too. I honestly feel like they're just treading water. The tag scene is still a disaster, the midcard belts are still jokes, the main event is still dominated by the same old faces. Business as usual, really.

Business wise the WWE probably doesn't think it's doing very well. No Way Out 2008 was up in buyrates from last year but Mania 24 didn't do as well as 23.
