We can go ahead and cut out "Star Wars as a franchise is dead". That is far and away from the real reason. Dead franchises don't have 6 movies, none of which made less then $300+million at the box office. The reason is because it was a horrible movie with horrible animation. The trailers didn't do anything to make people think otherwise either, as it only confirmed how sorry the animation was. If it was done nicely and had a better release date it may have done something. Honestly, even at $14m it's doing better then I personally thought it would. Yes, the commerical with baby the hutt burping just reaked of fail. I think the release date is important too. August and January are just the dumping ground for movies that studios don't really have faith in.

I haven't seen the film. But at the same time I'm not one of these people who think the franchise is dead or that the animation looks terrible. I went to see all the other Star Wars films on opening day. So what's different? Well I don't see this as being a true Star Wars film. It's animated, not live action. I thought the 2D Clone Wars cartoon on CN was OK but that was on TV after Attack of the Clones had already been released but before Revenge of the Sith. It boogles my mind as to why Lucas would want to go back to that post AOTC/Pre ROTS time period AGAIN. We all know what happens. Anakin turns to the Dark Side and Palpatine takes over as the Emperor. It would be like making an animated LOTR movie that takes place between The Two Towers and The Return of the King. It needs to be a prequel to The Phantom Menace or a sequel to Return of the Jedi as someone else has said. At the very least it should have take place between the 2 trilogies.

I'd like to see a prequel to episode 4, Set during the Vader years. I know "Force Unleashed" is doing that but i'd like to see a movie/tv show do it.

It was just a terrible idea. The target audience of this movie is die-hard Star Wars fans. Outside of that, it has very little appeal to the mainstream public. It's not a live-action movie, it has no correlation to the original six and it looks like its just a poorly done film. It resembles those Lego Indiana Jones cartoons they were making when Indy IV was released this past May.
It'd be like if they released that Lego Indiana Jones cartoon, or those Batman cartoons that used to be on t.v. to theaters. You can't expect the name alone to carry all the weight, there has to be an incentive to seeing the movie. Something like "This has a key plot element leading to the next film" or "This is the genesis of a new character of this series." Just because it's got the name "STAR WARS" attached to it doesn't automatically mean its going to be a hit, or even a success.
But at this point George Lucas has enough money to release something like this, watch it flop, and not even bat an eyelash, as he is *hopefully* too busy writing Episode VII of the Star Wars saga.

I think what happened with Clone Wars was many people saw through that garbage for what it was....George Lucas wanting more money.
Also, there was already a Clone Wars show so people felt that they already knew how things were gonna go.

Far as I'm concerned, this can go in the same drawer as the other three prequels - the "It Doesn't Exist" drawer. To me, the ONLY real Star Wars films are the six that were made between 1977 and 1985.

I'll consider those and the Holiday Special REAL Star Wars films LONG before I ever acknowledge the prequel crap.

To me, it seemed like there was no point to "The Clone Wars" movie since there was already a "Clone Wars" TV show.

Can Lucas make anything other than Star Was or Indiana Jones? Once upon a time, yes. It was called American Graffiti, and it was a classic. Now? Who the hell knows.

I know I wouldn't want him writing the script. That man is a danger to actors with his dialogue.

the weird thing is, that the show still has some strong interest because this was only one arc and the rest of the series deals with people who have nothing to do with the main plot.
iono, I'M STILL HAVE FAITH DAMNIT!!!
