Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour. In '87, Huey released this their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square" a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

They had me ever since they had songs in my favorite movie ever...BTTF.
I love how they all have cameos in the first Back To The Future movie.....
Just for those who may not know....The News is the band Marty plays with when trying out for the school dance at the start of the movie...and Huey's part is the best----he's the old geezer who says "Sorry---I'm afraid your just too darn loud"
When I first found THAT out a few years back...i was just ..........shocked. Didn't even notice it was him until someone pointed it out to me.
great makeup job...even for back then.

None of them were members of Huey Lewis And The News. As far as I know, Huey himself is the only one of them that had a cameo in the film.

No body get near Dr. Doom when there is an axe in the room.
Anyways, yeah Huey is good.

Huey Lewis and the News are actually pretty talented. There aren't many acts out there that can manage to take simple, three chord bar-band songs and apply the production polish and pop-sensibility that they did. I dig them, and have both Fore! and Sports on vinyl in my collection back home. I also made my own Huey Lewis & the News greatest hits mix CD, because I'm yet to find a commercially released one that does them justice as artists.

I love "Heart of Rock and Roll". I remember dancing to it when I was little.

Hells Yes. Seen them in concert twice too. Amazing show. The guys are pinpoint on their harmonies just like on the records, and Huey's energy is still amazing today. The guy jumps all over stage and interacts with the crowd, even taking requests from the audience. I grew up on Huey and he's still awesome more than 2 decades later.

1.) I do actually enjoy the music of Huey Lewis and the News, but...
2.) ...not as much as I love American Psycho references.
3.) Hey Patrick, why are there copies of the sports page on the floor? You got a dog or somethin'?

...I swear, we've done this before... Eh...yes and no. See, it wasn't that long ago that someone started a thread seriously about Huey Lewis and the News, that turned into an American Psycho quote-a-thon. This started out as an American Psycho quote thread, but turned into people actually talking about the band. *insert "The More You Know" picture here*

Or is this just a weird coincidence? *raises eyebrow*
