A few tidbits from this afternoon...
- I finally can say that I have confidence in Matt Cassel. Not "Tom Brady" confidence, but "Tom Brady in 2001" confidence. I've been saying all along, Cassel has great talent around him, so all he needs to do is be serviceable and the rest will fall into place. Belichick is finally taking the training wheels off of Cassel, and he seems to be accepting his role. Today his stat line didn't look amazing, but he did the job and didn't cost the team anything.
- Laurence Maroney. Sammy Morris. Lamont Jordan. BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Kevin Faulk. Anyone who would've thought that the Patriots could lose four of the five running backs they opened the season with and still look good out there, please raise your hand...nobody? Okay.
- I don't want to sound bitter, but if Tom Brady were healthy, the 2008 Patriots would go 19-0 and there wouldn't be a game within 21 points. The league is that mediocre this year.
- Also, I'm preparing for the "Brett Favre is the comeback kid!" onslaught tomorrow afternoon on ESPN. The bloom is off the rose on this one, Jets fans. This is what you got when you sold your soul. A good quarterback who won't win you a championship, can get you an extra 2-3 wins in the season, but he'll also throw back-breaking interceptions that will cost you 3-4 games, and probably a playoff game...but he's just a kid out there having fun.

Deuce McAllister says he is optimistic that he can avoid a four-game suspension for popping water pills and violating the NFL's steroid policy.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Brad Johnson's limitations in the downfield passing game may prompt the Cowboys to consider other options at QB this week, including third-stringer Brooks Bollinger.

The Browns manage to win again without Kellen Winslow.
Given that they've won both games that he's missed and that's he's become the arrogant prick that he used to be, I wouldn't mind if he stays away a little longer.

Talented as he is, I've laughed at Kellen Winslow ever since he was in college and gave that ridiculous " I'm a soldier" speech.

You know who I felt bad for? All the London fans that were probably thinking "What in the hell?" when the Saints pulled their little intentional safety stunt. Most of us had left by that point, under the assumption that the Saints were going to take knees. However, I knew the Chargers still had some time outs left...

Had a hell of a time watching the Giants-Steelers game. The Giants defense was excellent last night, only allowing two touchdowns and barely any yardage. As for offense, well, it certainly was interesting, to say the least. I don't think I've ever seen a team score 21 points with just one touchdown, but there you go.
Wonder how differently the game would've ended if the Steelers didn't f*** up on the snap and give the Giants the tie with a safety.

Yeah, I'm sure Tommy Boy would've saved the Patriots from that ass-kicking at the hands of the mighty Miami Dolphins. As for Giants-Steelers, is there really any doubt now that Eli Manning is better than Ben Roethlisberger? You take away Big Ben's running game and he's basically dead meat. Manning, on the other hand, handled himself well with the much-vaunted NO. 1 DEFENSE blitzing him all day long and still had a very respectable game. Finally, I like the fact that the Giants bought much needed physicality against a team that represents the dirtiest most physical division is football. Onto the Cowboys, hoping for a beatdown, and not a letdown.

As expected, Carson Palmer (elbow) has been ruled out for Week 9 against Jacksonville.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips confirmed Monday that Brad Johnson will likely start in Week 9, but only after being prodded by reporters.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips confirmed Monday that Brad Johnson will likely start in Week 9, but only after being prodded by reporters. Wow. What a poker face. Reporter: Who's starting? Wade: We'll see. Reporter: C'Mon Wade. Wade: Well.... I don't know. Reporter: You can tell me Wade. Wade: Are you sure? Reporter: Yes. Wade: It's Brad.

Ok, I made it through most of the day without doing physical harm to anyone after the Steelers loss. Have to check the injury reports. Need to find out how much heat Tomlin is getting for sitting Santonio etc. Was doing really well till I look at my Fantasy news and find out that Singletary BENCHED MY STARTING QB WTF ! I thought I was being pretty darned smart starting him over Eli. Eli didn't do jack as far as fantasy points go anyway, but still. *pouts*

JT O'Sulivan is your starting QB? Singletary did you a favor then before he cost you any more points.

JT O'Sulivan is your starting QB? Singletary did you a favor then before he cost you any more points. He's got more fantasy points than Eli Manning, my other QB. I started JT since I didn't think Eli would fare well against the Steelers D (and I was right about that) his points sucked this week too.

No wonder I don't play Fantasy Football. JT O'Sulivan having any positive points doesn't make any sense to me.

No wonder I don't play Fantasy Football. JT O'Sulivan having any positive points doesn't make any sense to me. He's got 148.5 fantasy points vs. Eli's 140.1. Eli caught up a lot this week since the other one got benched.
