My verdict is "no".
I say that he isn't because I feel that he has a direct incentive for caring about what Metropolis thinks of him- he is in public service as a superhero, after all, and he's an alien. I don't think he can afford people being afraid of him.
Blame Boomerang for this post. They were airing some of the old Fleischer Superman cartoons yesterday.

No. He could rule the planet, but chooses to serve people. That's heroic, not kiss-ass.

Then why ask if you don't think he is?

No he's not. He's a leader, an inspiration, not a kiss ass. If he was, wouldn't Lex get along soooo much better with him? Even when Lex was president Superman didn't kiss his ass. For the votes saying yes, can someone explain to me why he is?

I never liked Superman. I'd love to see Batman and Spiderman kick his ass, but sadly superman is the most powerful.

At least Superman isn't a petulant child like Batman.

so far ten votes, at least six since when I posted, claim he's a kiss ass but can someone actually prove why he's a kiss ass when there's not evidence of it for the character?

I voted yes, but for the "go batman go" part. Never really dug Superman that much. But I don't think I've ever really seen Superman "kissing ass", so to speak.

He's pretty much the absolute opposite of a kiss ass. Yeah he's a boyscout and all but in a sense he has to be, he is the most powerful *If not one of* beings on earth. Like he said in JLU he all ways has to hold back , cause if he didn't people would die and he would just wreck the place. And that has affected his personality, he's basically the pure guy, down to earth more so than most other hero's (Though thats all so because of the Kents), I remember in one of the stories Batman was talking to someone in the League who compared the two (I think it Wonder Woman) and he talked about how Bruce Wayne is basically the alter ego for him and for Supes Clark is who he really is, Superman is just a persona.

True. Greg Rucka tried to change it, but its pretty much accepted by most writers that there is no real "Bruce Wayne", just Batman playing a character, where as Clark Kent as Superman is just Clark Kent who put on a cape.

Oh yeah, I hate his old enterance music, his retro t-shirts, his limited move set, sucking up to the crowd everywhere he goes... Whoops, wrong Superman.

No, but you know who sucks?
Martian Manhunter.
Seriously he is near omnipotent but so damn wussy. Sure sometimes he transforms into a Chinese Dragon and kills Paradaemons, but otherwise hes paralyzed by fire and gets knocked out by everyone who invades the satellite. Even in the Justice League game, one of his quotes was "no, they are hurting me" in the most emo Martian voice ever. Then he just sucked completely in The New Frontier movie. If anyone kisses ass to be a member of the team, its the Manhunter. WORSE THAN AQQUAMAN AND HAWKGIRL!
