When I saw Quantum's Of Solace last month there was guy that done the cheap thing and brought candy in from home. Well he was eating them out of a plastic shopping bag so during the movie I constantly heard the rustling of the bag. So I told him 'If you don't stop rustling that snorking bag I'm going to suffocate you with it!'. He stopped.
That threat stopped him but I don't have it me to do it of course.

Wouldn't firing a gun defeat the purpose of quieting the place down?

I know we all think these things but you've gotta have a lot of balls to do this, and to a family man no less.

Well, it's shame the guy got shot, but on the bright side, at least it'll teach him to be quiet in a movie theater from now on.

Man, I agree....we all THINK about doing this at one time, and I have come pretty damned close to hitting someone over this....but I would never advocate attempting to KILL someone over them being loud in a movie.
Bottom line is, he was pushed over the edge, much like Michael Douglas' character in FALLING DOWN. People won't listen to you when you ask them NICELY to quiet down.....but you pull out a gun, and they pay attention really quickly. Sad, but true, fact of life.
I am saddened that it had to come to this, really. This is honestly why I don't care to go to theaters anymore.

Wouldn't firing a gun defeat the purpose of quieting the place down? Like using a flame thrower to clean up snow, right?

Wouldn't firing a gun defeat the purpose of quieting the place down? That's why silencers were invented for guns.

I like Rorscach's invocation of Falling Down. Thank you. ;D And it really IS similar, in my mind. I only wonder HOW MANY noisy people, screaming babies, and cell phones it took to push him over the edge. Theaters are like a "rude asshole" magnet anymore. People: YOU ARE NOT AT HOME. THEATERS ARE A PUBLIC PLACE, FOR THE ENJOYMENT OF EVERYONE. TURN OFF YOUR PHONES, LEAVE THE BABIES AT HOME, AND KEEP THE TALKING TO A MINIMUM. THANK YOU. What about that is so hard to understand? Honestly. I'm not defending the guy, or what he did at all....but I am saying that I can understand, especially with how lax theaters are regarding noisy/disruptive people, the guy's frustration. Difference is, rather than shooting up a theater, I stay at home, and deprive them of my money.
