I remember a period in Hollywood films were the Dog always miracously survived. See Independence Day and Dante's Peak for examples of this. And then there was Pearl Harbor. I hated that dog so much. I believe the dog not dying was what tipped me over the edge into hating that movie.

Really the dog dies? They should have euthanized this movie before it made it to theaters.

Oh, that's not nice. Seriously, why does the dog always have to die? Cause it's easy to get emotional over the death of an Animal. worked for Old Yeller, and to a lesser extent, My Dog skip. Edit: and of course: Yeah the oscars people always go for sappy dead/hurt animal endings.

I told my parents I wanted to see this movie, but I would wait to rent it. I don't want to lose a man card crying in a public theater.
