Halo 3. When this was released it supposed to be God's gift to the 360 and it's story and gameplay is mediocre at best, IMO. Maybe I'm out of the loop but I cannot understand why a guy would fall in love with a holograph??
The online mode is fun but the ranking system is trash. I can go game after game after game being the best player out of both teams, but if my teams lose a game or two, I STILL rank down?!?! Why can I get 22 kills 13 deaths and my team still loses, I rank back down??
On the positive side, the online mode is the best out of every game I've played for its load times, connection with other players, and Bungie's overall service.

Where to start?
* GTA San Andreas/IV: repetitive gameplay that can't be saved by better graphics or "real life environment". The core of the game, the missions, are more or less the same since Grand Theft Auto, the original one. The rest are fancy bells and whistles.
* Final Fantasy series: androgynous (emo?) characters a plenty, loooong and draaaagging gameplay. To get from an "exciting" mission to the next relevant event for the plot, you've got to fight through HOURS of boredom and wandering around. Less is more. And what about a bit of variation from the Jap-style pretty boy?
* Zelda series: sorry but I just don't get the appeal.
* The Sims: the idea was cool, but it's too much of a chore to play it, once the enthusiasm of the first day is gone
* Warcraft series: Give me Civilization, give me Age of Wonders... The love for that franchise [and for its devilish MMORPG offspring] is something I'll never be able to wrap my head around.
* Fire Pro Wrestling: awesome, if it still was 1992 and the most powerful console was a SNES... Frustrating gameplay, 16-bit like graphics. Probably it's truly an amazing game, but I wasn't impressed by the highly praised control scheme/grappling system.

-Big budget FPS game X. Remember when FPS games had good single player? Remember when you could play off-line multiplayer with your actual friends instead of loser stat-whores on the internet?

Critics Loved: Halo (Over-rated) TNA Impact (Garbage although to be fair it was an anti-WWE smark magazine that wrote the most ass-kissing review) Final Fantasy (I hate JRPGs. I want a game not a goddamn interactive movie with small amounts of interaction)

It's not that I hate Halo, but nobody will ever convince me that that game is more fun then Perfect Dark or Goldeneye.

Hell I still don't know why FPS's are a big deal. What he said. I particularly dislike the Call of Duty series, it has been the same damn tired and generic WWII game (well, 4 is at least "modern", but the gameplay is still the same Call of Duty as always) since 2002 or whenever that first one came out. Then again, most of my favorite games are Japanese RPGs, so everyone knows my opinions don't matter.

I like FPS's if they're interesting, but I am totally agreed that WWII FPS's are getting wildly out of hand. Just...too f***ing many. And most of my favourite games are also JRPGs.

Metal Gear Solid IV. It was ok, but I can't see how it got such high ratings. I just wanted to play the thing but kept getting interrupted by hour long cut scenes.

I just wanted to play the thing but kept getting interrupted by hour long cut scenes. Same here, that was actually a first with a Metal Gear game for me. In the previous ones I played I was usually hoping for a cutscene around the next corner, since the gameplay was so horrible that I'd rather watch the glitched AI colonel talk about purple stuffed worms and needing scissors than actually play the thing. (yeah, I'm not a big fan)

GTA 3 for the ps2 was a fun and excellent game but every single GTA game since has just been more of the same, if you've played 1 GTA game you have played them all.

All Haloes. There are so many better third person shooters out there, and without the annoying noobs playing on XBOX Live. And The Sims. I just don't get it. The most fun part was building a house....and then playing through life was the most boring thing I've ever done. Says a lot about myself I guess.

Speaking of third person shooters, Gears of War has to be the most tedious, gray and boring action game I have ever had the misfortune of actually spending money on (and I have played a lot of bad FPS and TPS games back in the day), and all the lame macho bullcrap makes it even less appealing to me. Some GoW fanboys tell me stuff like "It's a real man's game and the chainsaw gun is awesome, go back to playing that gay hentai anime crap (= RPGs and Nintendo games) of yours if you don't like it"... well, maybe I will.
Ooh, and Resident Evil 4, the so-called "BEST GAME OF THE 2000s/IN THE HISTORY OF EVERYTHING EVER!!!1" really didn't impress me at all. I tried to give it a chance, I really did, but so far I'm not seeing what's supposed to be so incredibly great about it.

With the exception of Mortal Kombat and the Smackdown series, not really. There are a lot of games I tend to find highly over praised by critics but in most cases I don't outright hate them. One of my pet peeves is when the gaming media goes into hysterical group think mode and starts declaring incredibly average games to be revolutionary. My only solace is that the passage of time always proves them wrong. I agree with this quote. For example, Mario Galaxy. While I'm really glad they went with the basic point A to point B gameplay like the classic, it annoys me how people call it revolutionary and innovative. Everything Mario Galaxy did, it was already done before and years ago to boot. Spherical worlds? Ratchet & Clank Going Commando. Gravity manipulation? Sonic & Knuckles and Megaman 5. Now on tpoic, a game I didn't like that got high ratings(at the time) was Super Mario Sunshine. It wasn't the water pack I haed. It was the level designs. That beach stage was NOT a stage.

I have a theory that one of the reasons why 1st person shooters are so popular is the graphics. I remember like 10 years ago, 1st person shooters almost always had the best graphics. If I understand this correctly this was mainly because the designers don't have to waste space and power on showing the player on the screen so this way they could focus on making the environments look better.
