Just for the sake of generalization, I'll throw in:
Every sequel/prequel/yearly game
I mean, despite how awesome looking the graphics may be, or how much the REVOLUTIONARY gameplay is praised, if we're seeing "Uberpopular Franchise 6" or "Overhyped Saga 2009", odds are it's just the same game engine with a couple of new shiny animations, a bunch of secondary embellishments and a refreshed interface.
I categorically REFUSE to accept the Nth chapter of a saga can be dramatically better than the previous one.
ESPECIALLY if it's on the same gaming platform, or if it's been developed a few months after the old one was finished.
And one last bit, how can ____ 5 get 95%, when ____4 got 93% and ____3 got, say, 96%?
What's the measuring stick? Are all these games totally awesome, or is the newer one twice as better as the old one?
For all I care, we haven't seen a vaguely interesting concept in ages. The gaming market is totally stale, crippled by the "if it sells, let's just keep doing it over and over again, and those idiots will spend money on it" policy.
When will fans get the NEW AND AWESOME game is more or less an update of the old one?

GTA (althought when I was younger I liked the original), The FF series and MGS never interested me. The only things I like to play are wrestling games and Fifa games though so maybe I'm being fussier than most.

I didn't like Mario 64, I didn't think Mario worked in 3D and found the majority of the game boring (I liked the penguin slide though), thankfully Mario Galaxy addressed most of the issues I had.

With the exception of Mortal Kombat and the Smackdown series, not really. There are a lot of games I tend to find highly over praised by critics but in most cases I don't outright hate them. One of my pet peeves is when the gaming media goes into hysterical group think mode and starts declaring incredibly average games to be revolutionary. My only solace is that the passage of time always proves them wrong. I agree with this quote. For example, Mario Galaxy. While I'm really glad they went with the basic point A to point B gameplay like the classic, it annoys me how people call it revolutionary and innovative. Everything Mario Galaxy did, it was already done before and years ago to boot. Spherical worlds? Ratchet & Clank Going Commando. Gravity manipulation? Sonic & Knuckles and Megaman 5. Mario Galaxy isn't exactly the game I had in mind, but I'll agree with you that it isn't revolutionary. Let me be clear that I don't believe a game needs to be revolutionary to be great. However, I've noticed that some critics are apparently so insecure in their tastes that they feel the need to call a game revolutionary in order to justify their love for it. To me Mario Galaxy is a case study in good game design and it deserves the scores that it received, but it did not reinvent the wheel. What I had in mind with my original post was a game like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. It was a decent game with some fun platforming, but it was marred by horribly repetitive combat. It received praise for being revolutionary because of the time control feature, but even that had been done before. There was nothing remarkably original about it, and the game itself was nothing spectacular.

Tomb Raider. Oh whoopee f***in' doo pixelated boobies. Call me when you finally grow up and get to touch the real thing and not your own fat hairy manboobs you fat sack of crap.
Donkey Kong Country. I played it sucked. Sure it had nice graphics but it still sucked
RPGs I don't hate them I just really can't get into them. I've tried playing them but for some reason or another it just doesn't take with me.

Wait....I think some of you guys are confusing hate with just dislike/thinking a game is overrated.

GTA: San Andreas.
To me it was just GTA 3/VC but larger. Sure the game added stuff like going to a gym and button mashing to raise one of many pointless atributes you need in order to play the game, but to me that was just a chore and not nearly as revolutionary as fans made it out to be. Not to mention (and at the risk of sounding racist, but I assure you that's not the case), I really couldn't relate to or become interested in the main characters and the whole hip-hop setting was a big turn off.

Fire Pro Wrestling. One of the worst games I've ever played. Let me guess, you tried to button mash. I don't get why people think this game is so hard. It's freakin' easy!

Critics sort of liked Final Fantasy X-2, I mean they gave it decent reviews. I personally think it's the game that killed Final Fantasy, even if Rikku is hot damn.. I mean she's wearing a thong, mini skirt and a bra for crisp sake! Remember little girls, this is what you should be wearing when you're 17. I hate this game with every inch of my soul...*rant over*

I loved FFX-2, but I realize I'm in a vast minority there.
I thought the story was good, the gameplay was AWESOME, the music was great, it was all in all a really nice little fun side-story.

^I know how people can like it (even though it pains me to say), it's just the image and the J-Pop that ruined it all for me, heck if I wanted that I'd play DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball.

I can understand how people hate it too, even if a lot of people just hate it for the opening cinema and even the wrong reasons there. Not saying that's why you hate it, it's just what I run into a lot. But the image really didn't bother me, and the battle system was just holyf***soawesome.

Yea I know the sort, I actually did buy it, hated it and I think I sold my Playstation 2 soon after that. I think it scarred me deeply. Still, Tina Turner as Yuna still wasn't as bad as this main character...

Only thing I liked about X-2 is how hot Yuna and Rikku are, and the hot springs cutscene.
