I've played Rock Band a few times with friends, but don't have it myself yet. That said, I can't wait to pick it up and start doing some drumming. I'm a guitarist in an actual rock band, but I love drumming and want to get more practice on it -- I know it's not the same, but it should help get my hand/foot coordination more on track. From what I hear, if you can kill expert in the game, you should do pretty well on a real set of drums.

I hate these games seriously. Nothing but trendy garbage for mainstream idiots. I'm not saying you cant be a hardcore gamer and be into these games but come on now, we know who these games are targeted for.

The difference is, while playing real drums, you don't get spiffy scrolling notes.

Actually until Guitar Hero Rock the 80s or Guitar Hero III, the games were targeted to hardcore gamers. Harmonix and Red Octane didn't know the first game would be so successful, and then they made Guitar Hero II, and then it became a phenomenon.

The people that love rock music from when it was awesome, and also those that had a penchant for air guitar. Only in recent years, once Activision pimped the series out to every console out there the target audience of the series changed.

A lot of the kids playing these games dont own anything by these bands that are featured. While I cannot argue with that, that would include an intensely huge CD collection and taste in music. It doesn't really have any relevance to what you were previously trying to say either.

You'd have eaten this up back in the underground cult Guitar Hero 1 days I'm sure. Oh, and you can't get more "trendy" than Devo and "mainstream" than Freezepop now can you?

Ive never been a fan of Dance dance Revolution type games so I wouldnt play Guitar Hero regardless of how popular it is. I like the music and I'd rather just listen to it.

Well that's a better response than your previous tirade, and I respect what you've just said now. It's just that before you seemingly shot it down in pure hatred due to the sole fact that it seems trendy and mainsteam, albeit that is how it was worded.

I just played it for the first time tonight. It is pretty fun with a buncha people. I doubt I'd get it and play it by myself, but at a get together, it's quite fun.

No, I'm not trying to be cool or different or what have you... Why are these games so popular? Granted I've only played Guitar Hero for around 20 minutes, but I just don't see what the big deal is. It's Donkey Konga--but with a guitar instead of bongos. And for the price, I can go buy a real instrument and learn to play it. Does anyone else here not like Guitar Hero/Rock Band or am I the odd man out? I don't like them either. I like some of the music but I can't stand playing them.

Taking the whole "it'd be better to just go and learn actual guitar" opinions...if that's how you feel, that's great.
I actually have every desire to go and learn real guitar, if I ever get the time to actually do so. I'd love to write music, it's what I wanna do more than anything.
That doesn't make GH/RB any less fun. If it's not fun to you, that's totally your thing and I respect that...but I have fun with it. And that's what videogames are about.

The GH/RB games are the definition of party games. These are amazingly fun with more than a few people. Some of my funnest times have been chilling in my friend's basement playing RB. But if you're alone, it makes you realize how sad you are.

I don't even mind playing it alone.
It's how I got better at the game, in any case.

Like I said in my post,I dislike them because I don't find them enjoyable to play. I find them to be quite boring. That's me though.

Like I said in my post,I dislike them because I don't find them enjoyable to play. I find them to be quite boring. That's me though. I adore the franchise but it requires multiplayer support. Get a group of people together and you will have so much fun, works even better with the new full band support on Guitar Hero:World Tour. xxxx
