I've spent half the time I've been awake today trying to set my old Atari 2600 up. I have all the right stuff (I think), but nothing seems to work, and I know the console itself works. I have the little switch thing that attaches to it, and I've plugged it into every available coax-cable outlet there is. I've tried changing the switch between "tv" and "computer", tried changing the console and tv's settings between channels 3 and 4...everything. Nothing works. I've watched FOUR different youtube videos on how to do this, and they're all showing me what I already did.
Dammit, I just got E.T. and I want to play the damned thing!

I lost my all my Atari games in one of the 7 moves I went through from 6th grade to 12th grade I ended up selling the Atari 7800 to a collector at some point for like, $75 bucks, because it wasn't worth full value as my Dad had modified it to take a different power adapter since the original one blew up and stopped working. <sigh>

Dammit, I just got E.T. and I want to play the damned thing! w...what? There's a store near me that sells vintage games, and I picked up a bag's worth of Atari cartridges. I went with a balance of classics and the crap, just so I could say I've played them.

I had a friend who had a functional 2600 when we were kids, and that was one of the games he had. It was indeed...kinda crappy. But he also had Pole Position (heh heh), the terrible version of Pac-Man, Othello, and what I believe was Berzerk. So it wasn't all bad.

I never could do good in the Raiders of the Lost Arc game, Heeeey I played that'un too. Yeah, it was a little difficult for sure. Especially since I never knew I was supposed to use both control sticks. ...because of that, I could actually never start the damn game, come to think of it. No wonder I thought it was hard.

Man, I feel nostalgic now... Every Christmas when I grew up, we'd go to my grandparents near Christmas. Up in my grandfather's attic he had his Atari set up along with an SNES, air hockey table, pinball machine, pachinko machine and pool table. My brother and I would start playing Atari and as soon as we'd get into a game of baseball, my dad and uncle would end up taking over, throwing those wildly curving pitches and insulting each other. When my grandfather passed away (which was right before Christmas one year), my dad ended up with the Atari. It's boxed up somewhere, along with a copy of ET. My grandfather never owned ET... I bought it at the Goodwill for cheap, played it for a few minutes when my bro hooked the Atari up in the garage, and was going to smash it with a hammer, when my dad bought it from me for $1. I also sold him a Power Rangers game for the SNES in a similar fashion for $5 after I paid $4 for it.

Both control sticks? WHA?!?!?! Now ya tell me!!! I know. WHO DESIGNS A GAME LIKE THAT?! It's like, consider the way that joystick was. Could that BE any more difficult? Well, I suppose it could, but um...I'm not gonna go there.

Got my sister a Wii for Christmas. System, Mario Kart, and extra controller (and wheel - kids love that stuff). so we played mario kart and sports with my little nephew for much of the day. then she went to bed, and i found out how strong my neighbor's wireless internet is. to the store, where i picked up Bomberman '93, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Tecmo Bowl. You can't be where you're at until you've learned where you came from.
Madison, best of luck getting the atari going.
and the only part of the wii setup that i struggled with was getting controller 2 set up (if only i'd read the instructions first, right?)
