*starts banging head against wall*
WHY?!
These covers are downright horrible! And besides, why do groups always have to cover Nirvana's most well known songs? Those don't lend to covers very well at all.
On a side note, when I was at this coffee shop tonight with the wifey I heard an awesome cover of "Been a Son" done acoustically by a female. It was one of the most awesome covers I've ever heard because she made the song her's. It was beautiful.

Flyleaf is one of my favorite bands, but that really wasn't a very good cover. Do you think Hayley Williams could pull off a Nirvana cover? No.

Do you think Hayley Williams could pull off a Nirvana cover? No. I'll have to agree. She probably couldn't do it now, but i still stand by my belief that she's going to sound incredible when she hits her late 20s. I believe she could pull it off then. I really love Haley's voice.

I rarely see good Nirvana covers. They're either horrible, karaoke clone-types that sound too much like the original to be noticed (Weezer, Offspring and Seether have all done live covers and they just don't have any uniqueness to them, they all sound like clones), or in the WTF category.
Polyphonic Spree's "Lithium" cover definitely fits the WTF category:
My favorite Nirvana cover has to be Machine Head's cover of "Negative Creep":
And I'll get slammed for this, but I didn't mind Limp Bizkit's cover of "You Know You're Right"

You already did. Since Nirvana's version was a cover. Really? I never knew that. Who performed the original song? The only cover I was familiar with was The Man Who Sold The World. Dude, half of Nirvana's MTV Unplugged set was cover songs!

Dude, half of Nirvana's MTV Unplugged set was cover songs! Okay! I'm sorry! Like I said in the OP I'm not a big Nirvana fan so I don't know everything there is to know about them. That is interesting information, though. Thanks.

how has the thread gone this far without somebody suggesting either Amy Lee or the chick from Flyleaf chose "Rape Me" as their Nirvana cover?

That is interesting information, though. Thanks. I got the Unplugged DVD, where you have the unedited concert. at one point, Kurt asks what song they should play and someone says a song that's not by Nirvana. Kurt then says "Well, that would be a cover. Oh right, we've been playing covers all night!"
