See I grew up first and foremost with the small eyes Spidey from Spidey Super Stories.. so the big eyes just look.. wrong to me. Mcfarlane's I don't even mind that much as it was his design, but that became the standard thereafter, just a quibble with me.

I thought McFarlane was a pretty good writer myself, but diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.

If I had to sum up nineties comics in one word... Pouches. You never knew what you would get into in the 90's. Doomsday, Onslaught, it was always best to be prepared. Hell, I killed Nick Fury!

if you wanted the pouches statement to be accurate, you'd have to type it like a hundred more times.

And if you notice, in the Liefeld picture, you can't see his hands or feet either.

If the Clone Saga had only lasted that six months or so to #400 and they pulled the trigger on a finale one way or another without dragging it out for like two years, it wouldn't have been that bad. There was some interesting stuff there early. WHOLE lotta crap too, but interesting stuff.

Yeah I actually don't mind the Clone saga all that much. Plus, we got Ben Reilly's badass Spidey outfit out of it. Sorry, but that's just f***ing awesome.

It'll never replace the original, but it is awesome. I was glad they kept the design around for the whole Spider-girl concept.
hell, I kinda liked the Scarlet Spider suit, hoodie n all.

They'd have avoided the derision if it was just a simple blue shirt/tunic of some short rather than having hoodie strings.

I didn't hate Ben Reilly either. The idea that I'd never really read about the 'real' spider-man was kinda disconcerting, but like I said the concept itself, wasn't entirely horrible. I still think if they'd had #400 where Aunt May dies be the end of it/ had Ben swing off into the sunset.. possibly an occasional appearance now and again, without the two years of 'no he's the real spiderman, no he's not, oh wait norman's back' it'd be more fondly remembered.
And we coulda avoided Mephisto plunking his magic twanger years later.

This thread makes me sad Rob Liefeld ever got into comics.
