Did anyone besides me actually watch the movie? I saw it. It had it's moments, but it was inconsistent in tone, and in what it was reaching for. It did entertain me, and I certainly have to say it wasn't a "smart" movie in the slightest. And certainly there are plenty of moments that was definately "My dear sweet Zombie Overlord, where did they get the drugs to fuel this?."

Me and my buddies went to the theater to see either this or Yes Man. For some reason, one buddy thought that since The Spirit just came out and Yes Man had been out for a week or so, there'd be a bigger crowd for The Spirit, so we saw Yes Man. The more I think about it, the more I'm pleased with this decision. Yes Man was very very good, and from what I've seen and heard, The Spirit looks like a rental at best. *shrug* We might see it next week or something, though. I dunno.

I just listened to the audio review on Spill.com and it was hilarious. I won't link it because of bad language, but it's funny.
EDIT: "Scarlet Johansen needs her acting credentials revoked."
EDIT: "A two-hour fecal waterslide." HA!!!

Honestly, it was one of those movies I was really hoping would do well. It looked really cool from the previews.

Did anyone besides me actually watch the movie? I have the dubious distinction of being able to say yes to that question. It was terrible.

If any of you guys would like to offer details up on why you thought it was so bad, I'd love to hear them. I was originally super-excited for this. It's a shame how it has turned out.

The thing about the movie is, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I can see how they can blast the acting, but it was so over the top cheesy, I don't see how it can be chastised for 'lack of emotion.' I enjoyed bits and pieces of it, but it felt like a joke that went too long. It also lacked the action that I thought it would have. Having said that, my two nephews enjoyed the movie. I now feel like I'm too old, as I didn't enjoy this movie as much or that Infinite Playlist movie. I did enjoy Seven Pounds though

If any of you guys would like to offer details up on why you thought it was so bad, I'd love to hear them. I was originally super-excited for this. It's a shame how it has turned out. There's something fundamentally wrong with every aspect of thsi movie. To list every problem would take all day, but some big ones: the acting is so wooden that Eva fracking Mendez is actually the best performance in the whole movie, and she's as bad as she is in every other movie she does. The "graphic novel" visual effects are really lame, really ugly, and serve no purpose. They just make your eyes bleed. And they aren't even finished: there are several shots of the city skyline that aren't even "cartooned"; they're just live-action shots of a city. Whoops~! Frank Miller doesn't know how to direct and therefore he really just... doesn't direct. All he's good for is thinking up weird things to do with CGI, which there is plenty of (including: anime samurai Sam Jackson[for no reason], a fight scene in the style of Looney Toons wherein the combatants make toilets, mallets, and kitchen sinks magically appear so they can bash each other over the head, and lots of nuclear-fallout bright white blood that just looks like spooge, quite frankly). the actors clearly don't know what they're supposed to be doing, which is part of what a director is resonsible for, and the cameraman doesn't seem to know what he's supposed to focus on. It's one of the most aimless movies ever made. It's really, really stupid. Frank Miller's writing skills are on the level of third-grade humor. And lots and lots of misogony. I mean, the entire central conflict revolves around Sand Serif wanting something SHINY!!! OOH SHINY!!! SHINYSHINYSHINY!! 'cuz that's all women care about: the shiny. Not sexist or anything, Frank. Really. Way to go.

I dunno. I really thought Frank was a great writer in the 80's. I not only loved Dark Knight and Year One but man I loved Ronin and all the Daredevil stuff. It's scary how much he's lost his mind over the years. I never thought he'd draw such universal hate from folks.

Anyone who wrote "what are you, retarded? I'm the Goddamn Batman!" has all the hate in the world coming to him. Toss directing this shitstain on to his credentials and he needs to worry about villagers chasing him with pitchforks and torches.

I'm not gonna lie, I've never read "The Spirit" comics, but before this even hit theaters the one thing that really bugged me is that it was being advertised as "Frank Miller's The Spirit" whereas I've always, ALWAYS known it as "Will Eisner's The Spirit."
Never was it just "The Spirit" to me, it was "Will Eisner's The Spirit" and the fact that he isn't getting any promotional credit really bugged me.

It's scary how much he's lost his mind over the years. I never thought he'd draw such universal hate from folks. He easily was among the most talented men of the past few decades. Not only his writing, but his art was more then solid and he had a wonderful eye for layouts. He's a master storyteller. However, somewhere along the way he got lost, but keeps chugging on based largely on his reputation. I'm not going to fault him for it, because every field has people like this. As for the universal hate, I think its either only based on recent stuff or people just want to be trendy. Looking at his entire body of work its impossible not to call the man legendary. But man does he hate him some ladies sometimes.
