I don't understand their definition of "Hard Rock". Kansas? Evanescence? Megadeth? Huh?

Well for years VH1 and the rest of the media have been telling us how much hair metal sucked ass and now they are telling us that it was good. I guess enough time has passed for them to acknowledge its rightful place in history. The 90's are long over so I guess its ok now not to be bashing it. Sure, hair metal is an important part of music history but it doesn't change that an overwhelming majority of it was garbage. In 2018 will we be saying the same about nu metal? "Limp Bizkit gets a lot of crap for being a nu metal band, but if you can get past the embarrassing videos, the shoddy music, and Fred Durst acting like the biggest douchebag in the world, that band kicked ass!" I dont think you can compare nu metal to hair metal. Hair metal was poppy thus allowing for a lot of "hits." Nu metal was heavier and darker so there werent as many hit songs in that genre. There wont be a nostalgic love some day for nu metal because it wasnt "fun music."

A artist that isnt defined as hard rock can have a heavier rocking song that you can say is hard rock. Like a lot of the 90s bands on the list for example. Most were classified as alternative but they had some songs that rocked hard that you can throw on the list. Are the White Stripes a hard rock band ? No but can Seven Nation Army be considered a hard rock song ? Yes.

Both are totally bankrupt forms of music with a limited lifespan that should just stay dead. Just my opinion.

You also wouldn't be seeing a conveniently balanced spread of decades and genres.

For all of you complaining, the list was compiled by fans going on their website and voting. Of course popular songs got a better rub in this list.

I'm just so, so very glad Rollins is on the list. I think he deserves more recognition.

The balanced spread of decades and genres is just VH1 doing what they think people want to see. They had to have every decade be represented and they just found the best stuff from the weaker eras they could throw on.

Queensryche made the list, so they did have at least one eye on quality instead of popularity.

It's not really the "100 greatest hard rock songs", it's more like the "100 songs we at VH1 feel will gather the widest and more diverse audience, even adding a couple of songs that are either too heavy or not heavy enough to be considered hard rock".
