My Ethernet cable works perfectly fine when playing music on my system, even though it's got "little to no connectivity". It just plain will not connect to Live.

*sigh* I know I'm the eleventy bajillionth guy to ask this, but WHY CAN I NOT CONNECT TO XBOX LIVE? !!!! I've checked my connections. I'm not wireless--I connected my ethernet cable into my laptop computer, and I REFUSE to shell out $100 on a wireless adaptor that, if required to play XBox Live, should have been packaged in with the console in the first place. Apparently, my IP Address failed its test, whatever the hell that means. I don't know an IP Address from a Pop Tart. How far is your xbox from your cable modem? I'd connect right into the modem if your close enough.

I seldomly venture into this thread but I had a question. From everything I read theres really no way to create a player in franchise mode on Madden 2009. But somehow I did it. My question is... how??

The console is connected to the network plug in my laptop, which is now about four feet away from said console.

You either need to invest in a multi cable network adapter(router). With this you plug your modem into that then your laptop, then xbox. Even wireless routers have multiple hard line outs. Get an extremely long cat 5 cable to go from the modem to the xbox. This is what I do, but my xbox is only 3 feet from my cable modem. Or pay MS's crappy price for the wireless adapter. If you look around the net you can find it as low as 80 bucks(cheapest I've seen it).

Do you think it makes me a giant puss that I don't let anyone who isn't on my friends list talk to me or message me? I think after four years of racist abuse and screaming twelve year olds will make anyone go insane. *random thought*

I think this is what Killah Ray and I are trying to get you to do. If you have wireless internet now on your laptop, then you must have a wireless router. You should be able to take a cable from the back of that router and run it into the xbox.

*returns from GameStop*
There. OK, Microsoft? snorking THERE. I bought your obscenely, OBESELY priced wireless adapter, which should have a "6000 in HD" after the name.
Are you happy now, Microsoft? Happy happy happy? You win this round.
...But the match is far from over.
EDIT: And for the record, I had to do this because the router is upstairs, but the 360 is downstairs. So there.
SECOND EDIT: IT STILL DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's the goddamn IP address!! I'm using the right IP address, I swear to God. I'll bet it's one of these other two things--the Subnet Mask and the Gateway.
Again, I look at these, all I see are Pop Tarts.

That might be the problem...try turning the password off for a second and see if it works now..

...Turning the password off? Dude, I'm frustrated and my brain is bleary--could you just use plain English?
And if you have AIM or MSN Messenger, could we use that please?

Matt, try turning the router off for 60 seconds and then back on again. Then wait for it to fully boot up.
That's what worked for me.

If your wireless connection is protected with a password, you'll have to enter that into the connection settings on the 360 as well.

*sigh* OK. After shelling out $50 for a 12-month Gold subscription, $100 for a wireless adaptor, and $20 for 1,600 Microsoft Points, after putting in my WEP name and key, IP address, mask number and gateway number, and after turning my house's router off for two minutes (which pissed some other people in my family off to no end), then turning it back on... ...the exact same goddamned motherf***ing problem came up without a hint of change. So, I quit. I'll be returning the adaptor and canceling the subscription tomorrow, which means that I will not have XBox Live access--the system's #1 selling point, remember--in any way whatsoever, probably ever.

On your wireless router itself, you might have a limit to the amount of connections that can be had at any one time. Also, your router MUST be on the list of approved XBOX Live Routers, which is available at xbox.com. It is a pain sometimes, but it's worth it once you are able to connect to Live without problems. Also, I usually do the "auto" connect feature for the IP settings and what not, and at most, you just enter in the Pass Key if connecting wirelessly.

How frigging hard could this have possibly been, Microsoft? You're the undisputed god of computers and NINTENDO did a better job of this than you!

...It works.
Uh...
I tried it again before I left for a doctor's appointment, and it, um......it works now.
...
......
I guess all I had to do was threaten Microsoft with a loss of $170.
