Ani, you better teach Sajoa the technique for dealing with Heilman appearances. Ya know, turn the lights off, hide in the corner of the room, and pray for the best ;D Well it seems like Seattle might get him...so Duke will have to do all that ;D

Rumor: Orioles up their offer to 10 yrs/$200 million. This is getting out of control. I would not be surprised of Boras is playing the Os right now. Whoa, as a Ranger fan and watching Tex for many a year, he is NOT worth anything close to that. He's good, but he's not THAT good IMO. No way would I pay him like an elite player.

I know how to deal with horrible pitchers. You learn fast when your a Ranger fan.

Roy Oswalt said he'd restructure his contract with the Astros if it allowed the team to bring in another quality starter.

Thing is, he's as close to a sure thing as you can get in this free agent market, and in recent memory (with the exception of A-Rod). If there's any free agent that's going to play for the duration of a $160-$200M contract and put up consistent numbers and earn every dollar, it's Teixeira. Switch-hitter, 29 next season, hits for average and power, plays a GG first base. I look at his numbers and I see an elite player.

Trying to get info about the Putz deal guys. It's looking something like: Seattle gets: Franklin Guiterrez, Mike Carp, Endy Chavez Cleveland gets: Heilman and others (HA HA!) Mets get: Putz, Jeremy Reed, and another player. It could still change. There's also a chance the M's may get Heilman and Cleveland gets Joe Smith. All I know is that the Mets gave up 6, they're getting back 3, this is a TWELVE PLAYER DEAL! I'd REALLY like to believe that Shappiro isn't dumb enough to trade for Heilman. I really do.

Apparently the Yanks just upped their offer to counteract the Braves as I just read a report saying the Braves offered him 5 years $80m.

Out of all that junk, you'd think at least two of those prospects would pan out for the Mariners. So, I guess that's a plus for them.

As long as the Cubs don't get Jake Peavy, I am happy.
If the Cubs acquire Peavy, they are still acting like a team that is building in hopes of making it into October, as opposed to a team that wants to advance deep into October. Yes, Peavy is an upgrade over Jason Marquis. But let's look deeper into the numbers.
Over the past 5 seasons, Marquis gives you 13-11with an ERA in the 4.xx. Peavy, in the same time frame, averages 14-9 with an ERA around 3.00. Given that Wrigley Field provides a day game-heavy schedule and is known for its mercurial weather, let's look at Peavy's splits for day baseball and road starts.
In comparable numbers of home/road starts, Peavy averaged 1/2 inning per start more at home than on the road. Further, his home ERA is more than 1.00 run less than his road split. At home, he has allowed 0.62 home runs per 9 IP, but that stat on the road balloons to 1.25 HR/9 IP. Home batting average against is .211, while the road BAA is .238.
Now let's look at day numbers. His night ERA is 3.11, while his day ERA is 3.60. His control stats (BB, K, HBP) suffer during the day, and the power numbers (40 HR in 357.2 day IP vs. 88 Hr in 903.1 night IP).
Thus, Peavy in Chicago, playing day baseball in a park notorious for its wind, is likely a bit closer to Jason Marquis than his own Cy Young year. Add in the $64 million over four years, culminating with $22 million in 2013, and Peavy doesn't seem like a good deal.
Save the money and the prospects. In a very weak National League Central, the Cubs pitching staff (1 through 12) is good for a sub-4.00 team ERA as it stands right now. As long as Soto doesn't suffer from a major sophomore slump, they look they'll be good for 88-90 wins. Getting to the playoffs shouldn't be a problem. And you don't need five starters in October. The Cubs need to focus on left-handed power to bat 5th between Ramirez and Soriano, and a proven leadoff man that moves Theriot to the 2-hole and Soriano to the 6.
This could take two forms: pile of money for Ibanez, and trade Pie, Cedeno, Fontenot, and Hart for Roberts; or pile of money for Furcal, and trade some of the prospects for Hermida or Teahan.

A source told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal that the Red Sox and free agent Mark Teixeira made considerable progress Wednesday and a deal could be getting closer.

Is Putz going to be happy being a set-up guy? What a waste...
