Another thread I seem to make very year. My examples: -Islanders trade Zdeno Chara and the draft pick that becomes Jason Spezza as part of a deal for Alexi Yashin. -The Orioles trade John Maine and Jorge Julio to the Mets for Kris Benson. Maine and Orlando Hernandez (who the Mets would get from the Dbacks for...Jorge Julio) help the team back to the playoffs. Kris Benson hasn't been heard from since -The Vikings acquire Herschel Walker from the Cowboys, giving up the draft picks that became Emmit Smith and Darren Woodson in the process. -The Celtics trade the #1 pick in the 1980 draft and another pick to Golden State for Robert Parrish and the #3 pick (Kevin McHale)

-Quebec trades Eric Lindross for Peter Forsberg, Ron Hextall, Mike Ricci, a pick that became Jocelyn Thibault, and others pretty much setting the soon to be Avalanche to be a dominant NHL force. -Mets trade Scott Kazmir and Joselo Diez for Victor Zambrano and Bartolome Fortunato. Sigh... -Colts trade John Elway to the Broncos for Chris Hinton and others. Not that it was the Colts fault though to be honest. -Nets sell the rights of Julius Erving to the 76ers for $3,000,000. Detroit Gets Kris Draper Winnipeg Gets $1 Lol, I heard that while watching the Winter Classic yesterday. What's the story behind that?

And let me remind everyone that we gave up Parrish and McHale for Joe Barry Carroll. I'm not sure if those three words are more daunting than the two words of Chris Washburn or the two words of Todd Fuller.

I knew someone who for quite a while was talking about a plan to kill Peter Angelos. Here's another one I'm surprised I haven't seen yet: the San Diego Chargers give up several early picks, Patrick Sapp and Eric Metcalf in the 1998 NFL Draft in order to pick up the abominable Ryan Leaf.

Atlanta Falcons trade Brett Favre to the Green Bay Packers for a 1st round pick, used to get Tony SmithIn hindsight it looks horrible, but even Brett admits that at the time his partying was so severe that he was next to worthless as a football player. At the time, getting a pick that high was a steal for the Falcons.

I knew someone who for quite a while was talking about a plan to kill Peter Angelos. They coveted Maine that much? He had a pretty zig zag minor league career (the prospect books went from calling him an ace to calling him a 5th starter in a year with Main eventually settling in between.)

Tigers trade John Smoltz to Braves for Doyle Alexander. Granted,Alexander went 9-0 with a 1.53 ERA after they acquired him in the regular season. He then proceeded to go 0-2 with a 10.00 ERA in the playoffs. As for that Smoltz guy,he turned out pretty well for the Braves.

Crap! How could I forget this one?
-The Twins trade Johan Santana to the Mets for Carlos Gomez, Delois Guerra, Phil Humber, and Kevin Mulvey. At the time: -Gomez was one of the best OF prospects in baseball. -Guerra was on the fast track to possibly being the next Pedro Martinez -Kevin Mulvey was a projected #3-#4 starter. -Humber was a top draft pick from years back.
After this year: -Gomez is good, albeit wreckless as he had multiple DL stints. -Guerra hit a HUGE wall in AA. -Humber...was a player drafted from Rice. -Mulvey is more a #4 then a #3. Should be decent though.

It wasn't a trade, but... in '95 the Eagles picked up "The Weekend Warrior" Mike Mamula, when they could've picked up Warren Sapp or at least, gotten Hugh Douglas two years earlier.

Mets in 1971 trade Nolan Ryan, and here's how many no hitters each side has had since:
Ryan: 7 Mets: 0
And it was mentioned already, but let me just say to this day, Scott Kazmir are curse words to Met fans like me.
Also, the Jets giving up Chad Pennington for Favre. Look no further than last Sunday to see how well that went.
To expand one item made in the first post, look up any move Mike Milbury made with the Islanders. He's known as Mad Mike for a reason.
